Your upbringing must have really sucked; because what you call "sobbing" is me laughing hysterically at you.
The inaction on gun control of Obama and the Democratic Congress he enjoyed was/is only due to the Heller and McDonald decisions by SCOTUS.
Had Mayor Fenty obeyed and let Heller sit and stew at the DC Circuit, gun control actions taken nationally would have been more aggressive.
There will be no new laws written or any appeals pursued (except within "safe" federal appeals or Circuits) until Obama is re-elected and he has the opportunity to seat one or two Supreme Court Justices that can be counted on to reverse these recent inconveniences to the gun control agenda.
