Should people be allowed to carry handguns openly?

Not a big fan of open carry.

I often wonder how the 2nd amendment would have been written if they could se the world as it is today.
having read the founders documents, debates, commentaries, and other assorted statements, they probably would have written it to add 'under no circumstances whatsoever, shall any level of government attempt to restrict or regulate the carrying of firearms by the citizens of the united states of america'

where is the right enumerated that we can openly carry arms in all places?

i'm not sure if i would feel comfortable walking down main street with dozens of people with guns in open carry holsters. especially, if i was in a bank.

I don't know any other country in the world where weapons are openly carried apart from war zones.

Really!!
Then would you care to explain this:
Two weeks ago I was helping a friend close his shop and we headed back to his house; because I had left my van there.
When he pulled into his subdivision, a Patrol Car started following him.
It continued following him for 2 blocks, a left turn, 1 more block, another left turn, 2 more blocks, and when he pulled into his driveway, the Officer turned on the Red and Blues.
When the Officer approached the car, he asked if we had any weapons with us.
My friend said that he had a 40 caliber on the seat next to him and I told him that not only did I have a 9mm next to me; but I also had a 22 caliper revolver in my pocket.
The Officer asked for our ID's, gave them back, said he had stopped us; because my friend had forgotten to use his turn signals (which was true).
Told us he wasn't going to write a ticket and left.

We were never asked to surrender our sidearms.
We were never asked to exit the vehicle.
We were never asked to lay face down on anything.
NOW, why was that?

I'll wait patiently, while you try to make up a response. :)
This is pretty much a summation of my interactions with law enforcement, don't be a prick to them, don't shout about how you pay their salary, and dont tell them all about "your rights" and they're not going to go out of their way to be pricks.

Avoiding the issue as usual, name another country that allows open carry in peace time.

Which has nothing to do with anything at all.
Just because the once proud British allowed thier Government to turn you all into a pile of eunuchs, doesn't mean that everyone wants to follow you.
Especially since it's common knowledge that it's every English man's dream to become the "Queen" of England.

i appreciate where you are coming from tom, but if no other country had the 1st amendment (i am aware of the international version, just a hypo), that would not change my mind on our 1st amendment.

as to other countries, i believe in israel you can open carry. i'm not sure about other countries.

Don't you mean the 2nd Amendment? As for Israel, I believe that has something to do with national service.

'shall not be infringed' in the 2nd Amendment is where it is enumerated, and you do realize that it is not against the law to carry in a bank, right?

so you'd rather bow down and say 'yes sir' instead of maintaining your right to be left alone, or not be interrogated if you're not the subject of an investigation, or even to show ID when you don't have to?

as to the first issue - shall not be infringed: not allowing open carry on main street does not infringe upon your right to bear arms. you can still bear them, albeit not in the open.

the second issue - i don't know if that is a law. banks are private property, as such, the amendments apply differently to them, for example, they do not have to abide by the first amendment.

any state that wants to prohibit open carry, can still maintain the right if they allow concealed without a permit. otherwise it's an infringement on the right.

that is the law. Now, if a bank wants to put up a no guns sign, then the carrier can be cited for trespassing, but not carrying a gun in a bank.
