The war on terror is over

In the wake of the Arab Spring, the Obama administration is grappling with how to handle Islamists, radical adherents to Islam. Particularly, the issue has come to the fore in regards to Egypt, which, as Reuel Marc Gerecht notes, "is now certain" to elect "an Islamist" as its leaders the next time the Egyptian people go to the polls.

But some in the Obama administration are now seeing things differently.

"The war on terror is over," a senior official in the State Department official tells the National Journal. "Now that we have killed most of al Qaida, now that people have come to see legitimate means of expression, people who once might have gone into al Qaida see an opportunity for a legitimate Islamism."

This new outlook has, in the words of the National Journal, come from a belief among administration officials that "It is no longer the case, in other words, that every Islamist is seen as a potential accessory to terrorists."

so, a few questions remain...

1) can we delete the patriot act and it's successor?
2) can we abolish the TSA?
3) can we abolish the Dept of Homeland Security?

or do we still need these things because we must now focus on our domestic terrorists who continue to espouse support for the US Constitution?

That's an interesting take. The idea that a country like Egypt might elect an Islamic leader or gov't caught such criticism from many that it's easy to overlook how more radical elements might be placated by it.

I'm fine w/ changing the mindset - which yes, would mean getting rid of things like the Patriot Act. I'm not sure it's wise to get rid of OHS altogether, but it could certainly be stripped down.

I like the idea of "the war is over" - very Lennon-esque...

Did Obama bow again.....

1 - i have been opposed to the usa patriot act since its inception
2 - there are still isolated terrorists that would like nothing better than to bring down an aircraft full of people
3 - all enemies foreign and domestic

LOL!!!! The western elites are scared shitless with the rise of Islamists overthrowing their western supported dictators! Especially Israel! Since the situation has spun out of their control? They are now turning to spin. Basically try to win over the Islamists.lol

AHHHH I love it when a plan comes together. :)

Another big question is? Now that Gaddafi has been eliminated(basically the main financier of Muslim rebels in Africa)? There seems to be a rise in Muslim militancy in Africa. Who is financing them?
