And what exactly is the point of Webbie's little diatribe here? That there's black on black crime? Hell, Sharpton, Jackson, and a slew of black politicians, legal experts, social workers, federal agencies have been acknowledging this and trying to address the CAUSE and EFFECT for such all during my lifetime....with some successes here and there. Like everything else in these United States, the ups and downs of economic and social contentions determine outcomes for everything.
So what's Webbie's point? To somehow justify the mindset of Zimmerman in shooting Martin? Mind you, the elected mouthpieces for Zimmerman could not/are not giving an exact representation of Zimmerman's mindset during that incident. If Webbie is to imply that Zimmerman was calculating all those statistics before he continued to pursue and confront Martin, then that is stretching reality to the breaking point. Clairvoyant and/or a deep social thinker Zimmerman has not demonstrated to be. His pre-conceived notions about a black guy wearing a hooded sweatshirt in the RAIN and night, however, gives us an insight into his mindset.
Let me clarify.....if you just do a simple analysis of Webbies numbers, you're looking at roughly 7,100 homicides attributed to black folk per year divided over a 30 year period....that's is a minute fraction of 1% of the black population each year. No numbers to sneeze at, but hardly the apocalyptic scenario that Webbie portrays. Also, if we are to play the numbers game, one only has to look at FBI statistics to know that in 2005 there were a little over 15,000 murders in the USA and black folk were responsible for 49%.....that's a 5% drop from 2000 for 15,000 murders. Now just put 15,000 against the population of the entire country at the time, and you'll get my point. Not excusing, just putting things in perspective.
Zimmerman was NOT living in a high crime area DESPITE the minor increase in burgalry in his area...and Zimmerman certainly was NOT living in an predominately black, high crime area...so Webbie's statistics are essentially irrelevent.
Zimmerman's own personal record, the recorded phone calls and eye witness accounts and the actions of the local police chief and the state attorney all cumulated in his righteous arrest. Whether "Stand Your Ground" will keep Zimmerman out of jail is yet to be seen.
