NBC fires producer over edited Zimmerman 911 call

Yes, it would be. The producer fucked up. The producer was fired. I guess it'd be fun to completely ruin the producer's life for a while, but I don't see it as necessary or proper.

I also think that that idea that this has had a tremendous impact on people's views of George Zimmerman is slightly overstated, and that's an understatement.

I disagree. Most people do not spend a great amount of time listening to this kind of stuff. I think a great many people believe that Zimmerman said what they edited the tape to make it appear he said, that a large part of the public outcry to this event is based on what they heard in the tape that NBC edited for "clarity"...

I don't really know the politics of the producer. I just don't think his or her mistake, egregious as it was, means that the producer "has to answer to the public" such that NBC has an obligation to disclose the producer's identity and subject that person to the wrath of the mob and pretty much fuck any chance of future employability. The producer fucked up and was fired. That's good enough for me.

If you want to rake NBC over the coals, go nuts. I just don't see the need for a public flogging of the producer.

LMAO... yeah, of course... hilarious... no reason the public should want to question the producer. Nothing to see here, move along. Why should any future employee not be aware of such an error? It was blatant. Zimmerman should sue NBC and should most certainly have the name of the producer that tried to lynch him.

You are a model of reasonableness.

Is anyone surprised that since someone mentioned a public flogging Dixie has been pole vaulting all over this thread in panting, hyper-excited posts?

Why can't righties keep their kinks in their bedrooms?

Wow. That's quite extreme.

Is there a particular part you find extreme or the whole thing? I still think Zimmerman was a gun toting wanna be mall cop who started this incident by following the kid when he should not have. But it pisses me off that basically the first impression I had of this guy was from the NBC edited tape where he was calling the kid out for being black when that wasn't the case. So I think the falesly edited tape put the wrong impression in a lot of people's mind. And NBC saying it was some unnamed guy who did this and has been fired seems pretty weak. They gave a weak apology after they first got caught and they handled the firing in a weak way.

Exactly. But according to dung... all is well. No need for anyone to be able to question the guy or hold him/her accountable... NBC has self cleared itself of any wrong doing and they have their scapegoat to be named later if anyone actually bothers to follow up.

I just thought it was one of the most brilliant things to come from General Turducken in a long time, and wished to discuss further.

YOU are the kinky one, with your "pole vaulting" refs... and hyper-excited panting!

FREAK!

I have no problem with criticism towards NBC. I find the calls for NBC to publicly identify the person that they fired so that the public can have at him or her to be a tad much, particularly SF's insistence that the person "should be held accountable to the public." What purpose would it serve?

I do disagree with SF on that because while this is strictly conjecture I bet there were more than just one person involved in this and this individual fired took the fall. Therefore it's not so much him as it is NBC that needs to come clean with what really happened to regain trust from the viewing public. Saying we fired someone without saying who and all is swept under the rug doesn't do that imo.

Here's what gets me, and I don't know, maybe folks like you and Yurt can't see it, or don't want to open your eyes to it, but this WHOLE THING is an orchestration by the liberal mainstream media and the administration, to distract us from the state of the economy, gas prices, unemployment, deficit, etc, etc, etc.... Out of sight, out of mind! If we can be distracted from all these major problems over something as isolated as this, the liberals have a virtual cake walk to re-election, all they have to do is throw out a 'shiny object' for us to fawn over, and voila! The election is over, they have won, and we are screwed. Mark my words, the public reaction to this is so great, the liberals will most certainly use this tactic over and over again, between now and the election.

Just stop and THINK for a minute.... How many times a day in this country, does someone get shot? How many times is it by accident, or the result of someone being over-zealous or over-reacting? How many times has it been a mistake or out of vengeance? This stuff happens all around us everyday, and we hardly ever hear about it, except on our local news. It's sad! It's always sad when someone dies needlessly! But we don't ,make a fucking NATIONAL CASE out of it and run it on the news for a month straight, day and night, like it's the most extraordinary event that has ever happened before! I could understand the level of media attention this is getting, if maybe it was Mitt Romney's son who pulled the trigger, THEN maybe it warrants all this attention. This was someone who nobody knew, shooting someone else that nobody knew, and we don't really know the back story, the history, the details leading to the event... we're absolutely in the dark about most of the information here, and rightly so... these are just average regular people that no one knows! The WHOLE STORY is orchestrated, produced, manipulated, fomented and propagated by the liberals in the mainstream media, as a DISTRACTION from what we should be focused on and having discussion about!

yet at the same time you ignore the fact that this scapegoat and NBC were all to willing to have at Zimmerman and were all too willing to launch the public against him. There needs to be accountability. Just saying 'we fired someone' is not enough.

This case was nationalized by the media for many reasons:

1) They thought it was a white man that killed a black man: 'yeah we can sensationalize that'
2) They knew they could play the 'stand your ground law' into such wonderful topics as some liberals like such as 'it is really a shoot a n****r law'
3) They edited the tape to fan the racial flames
4) The local cops have a history of racial bias
5) The State DA seemed ready to ignore the case due to lack of evidence, when it looks like at a minimum Zimmerman should be facing manslaughter charges.

Apparently the thrill of getting caught adds to the enjoyment of the kink.

So go after NBC.
