NBC fires producer over edited Zimmerman 911 call

This is even worse than the stupid CBS "Rathergate" affair over the forged Bush documents. I really can't believe that NBC fucked up this completely.

NBC has totally given up on even trying to appear like they are impartial. See B.S. News did that with Rathergate.

I totally agree. I mean, all they did was investigate the matter and take appropriate disciplinary action against the person responsible. The bias is overwhelming.

To be fair, who hasn't? I haven't really watched any news program that didn't wear some bias on its sleeve over the past few years. Interestingly, CNN - which was the 1st to have a very ideological reputation - is probably the closest to old-school, impartial news these days, but they still have their own agenda.

The media is officially in a new era. It's not enough to report the news, anymore.

I absolutely agree with this. When I want the left perspective I watch MSNBC, when I want the right view, of course, Fox. When I want the old style reporting I watch CNN. And like you say, even they have their agenda.

Because every story I have seen fails to identify him. Could you link us up to where you got his name?... thanks

Apparently you're not a Seinfeld fan. Why do you give a shit what the producer's name is? Did you want to send him a nastygram or something?

You're better of watching none of it and getting your news elsewhere.

So defensive. No, I do not know every Seinfeld reference out there. I give a shit, because NBC is playing a CYA game. They fire an 'anonymous, producer to be named later', they proclaim it was the Today show's editorial staff that screwed up yet ignore the same edited tape was on their website three days prior to the Today show's 'mistake'. That edited tape was a part of the initial firestorm reaction and only incited and implanted the belief that Zimmerman was racist. A belief that many still cling to today because of that tape. The person they fired should be held accountable to the public. They should be answering questions as to why they did what they did. But NBC is covering for them. Why?

Wow. That's quite extreme.

IMO, it was public outcry made this happen, not any drive by NBC to appear impartial. Only a reaction by the network to the public rejecting the clear act of partiality made them act at all.

Still defending the left wing nuts. Hilarious.

I don't really know the politics of the producer. I just don't think his or her mistake, egregious as it was, means that the producer "has to answer to the public" such that NBC has an obligation to disclose the producer's identity and subject that person to the wrath of the mob and pretty much fuck any chance of future employability. The producer fucked up and was fired. That's good enough for me.

If you want to rake NBC over the coals, go nuts. I just don't see the need for a public flogging of the producer.

Yeah, it's only good to have the public attacks made on the person who it was edited to make appear "evil" in current social context and who was thus reviled. You can't have anybody knowing who did such a thing! That would be bad.

I think public flogging is an EXCELLENT idea! That is EXACTLY what we should do, every time some partisan left wing (or right) sycophant posing as a "journalist" puts out something that isn't true or has been 'enhanced' or whatever... public flogging! I bet, two or three of those, and we'd start seeing a return to "credible journalism."

Yes, it would be. The producer fucked up. The producer was fired. I guess it'd be fun to completely ruin the producer's life for a while, but I don't see it as necessary or proper.

I also think that that idea that this has had a tremendous impact on people's views of George Zimmerman is slightly overstated, and that's an understatement.
