5 year old Asian girl paralysed for life in driveby shooting

I wonder if the details of this tragic case have been publicised in the US?

She was a causality of a gang fight. That is not going to get the same type of publicity.

For the media's attention it is hard to beat an unarmed young black male being shot in an upper-middle class mostly white neighborhood. The fact that the shooter was Hispanic does throw a kink in the story but because of the racial history of the U.S. the Trayvon Martin incident is going to take top billing.

Much more interesting then a boy being burned, for being "white".

this isn't publicized in the US because there was no vigilantism involved and all the decent law abiding citizens have been disarmed. the media has exactly what it wants here. A defenseless populace, armed gangs to terrorize them, and a governments failure to do anything about it.

This is terrible and unfortunetly the sentences handed out, will not help the family.

But playing the devils advocate, how could this happen.
Guns are illegal in the UK.
Why wasn't the Uncle arrested, for allowing drug sales to occur in front of his shop?

They haven't been sentenced yet. As for guns, there are plenty available in the UK especially in London, Manchester and Liverpool where there are many gangs.

The police were so disgusted by this shooting that they have set up their own fund for the little girl.

Thusha Kamaleswaran still has to spend much of her time in hospital a year on from the shooting that dramatically changed her life.

She is allowed home at weekends and her parents are organising a move to a suitably-equipped home.
The little girl, now six, is expected to be permanently wheelchair-bound after a bullet hit the seventh vertebra of her spine.

Officers and police staff were so moved by Thusha's plight that they made their own plans to raise money to help her parents fund her medical care.

Detective Inspector Jim Redmond, Detective Constable Richard Williamson and Detective Constable John Codd, are among more than 20 officers and members of police staff who will undertake the Three Peaks Challenge from September 22 to 23.

This involves attempting to climb the highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales - Scafell Pike, Ben Nevis and Mount Snowdon - in 24 hours.

The participants are aiming to raise as much as they can for specialist equipment for Thusha to use in her new home.

They have set up a bank account for donations with HSBC. The account name is The Thusha Appeal, the account number is 12239108 and the sort code is 40-07-30.

How can this be?
Guns are outlawed in the UK; but then, self defense is banned also, isn't it?

Crime is on the rise as the population increase. In the UK for someone to defend themselves against criminals, will most likely end up with them in jail and the person who committed the crime going free.

Why is that? Because UK Self defence laws says, “You are not allowed to defend yourself”. Well, perhaps not word for word, but the meaning is the same.

The UK self defence law says “you can only use reasonable force“. That means, – you can’t subdue or beat up or harm the offender in any way, because if you do, you have used more force than neccessary and that makes you a criminal and guilty of causing harm to the other.

The law on self defence says reasonable force, but in practice almost always the "heat of the moment" defence is accepted by the courts. There was a famous case which caused headlines, where Tony Martin was jailed for shooting a burglar in the back. He had been plagued by burglars and boasted that the next time he would take action. It caused a fundamental rethink on attitudes to rights to defend property and personal safety.

I guess that Munir Hussain and his brother Tokeer feel that justice was served also; HUH.

That was a complex case, there were many that believed it was motivated by the Asian concept of honour. Who knows what the true story was, do you?

Seems to me that anyone who ties up someone's family and then threatens to kill them, should be thanking God that he wasn't beaten to death.
But then, it was nice of the UK Judicial system to see fit to release two of the criminals, prior to the victim and his brother being released.

Shooting death of 6–year-old girl punctuates lethal Chicago weekend

'She didn't deserve this,' mother says

49 people are shot citywide, 10 fatally

Diana Aguilar was distraught with grief Monday as she sat in the purple-and-pink bedroom of her 6-year-old daughter, gripping photos of her "baby."

Two days earlier, on a sunny afternoon more like a June day, Aliyah Shell was sitting between her mother's legs on the family's Little Village front porch as Aguilar untangled her hair. The family had a friend's birthday party to attend.

Suddenly, shots rang out from a pickup truck. Aguilar said she knocked her 2-year-old daughter on her back and hugged Aliyah tightly. But Aliyah was shot several times and died that afternoon at a hospital.

"She didn't deserve this," the mother repeated over and over again Monday as she sat on her daughter's bed, which was covered with bright balloons, stuffed animals and family photos. "They're not people. They're animals for doing this to my baby. A person with a heart would never do this, so they're not people."

Aliyah's shooting was the most shocking of a particularly violent weekend in Chicago. According to an analysis by the Tribune, 49 people were shot — 10 of them fatally — from late Friday afternoon through early Monday, mostly on the South and Southwest sides. Chicago police, excluding Monday morning from the calculation, said nine homicides took place over the weekend.

The deadly weekend continues a violent start to 2012. From Jan. 1 through Sunday, homicides soared 42 percent, to 94 from 66 a year earlier, according to a police spokeswoman. So far in 2012, nonfatal shootings rose to 408, up from 296 a year earlier, a 38 percent jump, she said. That continues a troubling trend that started in the last quarter of 2011. Police say gangs are to blame for much of the violence, including Aliyah's killing.

:palm:
Just another typical weekend in Chicago.

The five year girl wasn't killed but she will be in a wheelchair for the rest of her life. I posted this because it could be said to be black on brown violence.

no, it is a war on children and society by armed gangs

if the people in the store had been armed, the results would have been the same - or maybe not

how many children are wounded and killed in the good old u s of a where citizens may be armed, but gang terrorism still exists
