Romney would support statehood for Puerto Rico

Well as PR is pretty poor, it'd increase the public debt burden for starters. Second they have a pretty big independence movement that is rather militant.

When they already receive all the benefits of citizenship without the negative of paying the Federal taxes how could they possibly add to the burden by becoming a state?

It would only mean full COnstitution rights for them.

The only rights they are missing are the right to pay taxes and voting representatives in Congress. Seriously, there is little reason to become a state. What incentive is there. You get to pay taxes? Yaaaay!

haven't we said PR could become a state anytime a majority of Puerto Rican's voted to request it ever since sometime back in the 60s?.......

what would change?......for example, California always has a huge deficit.....the USA is not responsible for their debts, why would we be more responsible for PR than we already are?.....

I agree, although some think their becoming a state would give them economic advantages. I fail to see how that would help.

OK....hmmmm their pretty poor, they'd increase the public debt burden and they have a pretty big independence movement. Congratulations, you just justified rejecting michigans Statehood.

Anyway, PR is the only territory with the level of population that justifies seriously moving toward statehood. Guam, the US Virgin Islands, the Northern Mariana Islands, and the Marshall Islands are all miniscule by comparison.
