Newt must go for Santorum to beat Romney

You have to call 'em as you see 'em...and I understand and respect that. But when it comes to our state politics, if you think I am "over the top" conservative....well, let's just say you ain't seen an Oklahoma republican. Talk about waaayyyy out there to the right. We democrats have been battling them for years...and losing I might add. :(

leaningright, I know where you are coming from. Darla is a New York City Democrat or New York City liberal, that is often very different than an Oklahoma Democrat. I'm a San Francisco Republican and that is often different than a Republican from the South. So positions you have which to a NYC Democrat might look like Republican positions are Democratic positions in Oklahoma. Just different parts of the country.

So the conservative democrats in your state are deciding between voting for Romney over Obama, Santorum over Obama, and Paul over Obama?

I got news - they're Republicans.

This brought to you by name it/change it.

And the letter G... Don't forget the letter G.

No, I don't think you're over the top at all. But I do think you're a Republican. You just aren't mean, vicious, or crazy, which is what throws most people off. But not being mean, vicious or crazy doesn't make you a Democrat! :)

One issue I see is there seems to be a very big disconnect between what is considered a moderate. Conservatives think Romney is a moderate (and just giving one example from this board) Dungheap thinks Romney is the most conservative candidate since Goldwater. Now obviously people on the left think most/all Republicans are too far to the right so that is not a big suprise. But I have been listening to several non-partisan Independant voices that I feel are trustworthy and they think Romney is going to far to the right during this primary and will have a problem tacking back to the middle for the general. I'm not stating that they are necessarily correct but I see where they are coming from.

We all tend to all think of ourselves as 'moderate' as opposed to 'extreme.' I have never understood this whole "go to the right and tack back to the middle" thing. What the fuck does that mean? You have certain ideological principals for the primaries and change them for the general? How does that work, exactly? Only in Politics!

Romney is a moderate because he speaks the moderate language. He doesn't fully understand Conservative principles, or doesn't fully agree with them, whichever. The proof is in what he says and how he puts things. He defends Romneycare by making the argument that it was a state's rights issue, but fundamental conservatism should oppose state government intrusion into our health care just as fervently as federal. From that philosophical conservative standpoint, Romney is wrong. Then, just the other day, he presents his plan to cut taxes, for everyone but the Top 1%. Demonstrating, he clearly doesn't understand the Conservative argument, and practically accepting the OWS/Liberal argument. He's pro choice...no...he's pro life... he's pro-gay marriage...no...he supports traditional marriage... depends on which way the wind is blowing and who's vote he needs... maybe he 'tacks back' for the general?

But are you thinking about voting for Obama? That would make a good comparison. Otherwise, no. He and the people he is describing are all figuring out which Republican they're going to vote for. Think about it.

It's simplistic to say, Oh Darla is a NYC liberal. You know, if you are consistently voting for Republicans in national elections, you're a republican. If you are consistently voting for dems in national elections, you're a democrat. From there, you can start to differentiate between who is a liberal repub and who is a conservative dem.

Unless I missed it I didn't see him say anything about how he voted in previous national elections he was just speaking about this one. I had Republican friends who voted for Obama and I don't think that necessarily makes them Democrats just as some Democrats may decided not to support Obama again.

No just like a one night thing with a man, like let's say you and some other hot guy got carried away wrestling one night right? And then...btw, did that ever happen Cawacko?

Well, anyway, that wouldn't make you gay.

But, when you are getting carried away every weekend, then there is something going there, you see?

I am pretty sure leaning voted for McCain.

You mean as in "repig" or "repug"? Damo I don't abuse leaningright...but I can see you are missing it. I didn't abuse you enough this week on the birth control thread? You are really in withdrawal aren't you?

I just wanted to include all the sponsors... :( You know, Sesame Street was brought to you by the number 3 and the letter G...

Santorum is so disorganised he didn't even try to get on the ballot in Virginia and failed to submit the paperwork needed to win delegates in several Ohio districts.

Nope. Voted for Bill Clinton the first go round, not the second. Voted for George W. Bush the first time, not the second. Iraq was a deal breaker. Voted for Cynthia McKinney last time in protest of my choices.

I have to add that my reservations of the Republican candidates is that I fear some kind of preemptive military action against Iran. But I am the resigned to think it is likely with the democrats in charge as well. I get really depressed when I watch the news so I usually just catch about 30 minutes of Morning Joe and leave it at that.

Voting for McKinny is the sign of a definite Republican. :)

Well, I am a Mississippi Democrat.
