CA passes "fun tax" -f'ing liberal moonbats

I'm confused.

The headline states you can be fined $1,000 for playing football on the beach. Dung claimed that wasn't true. Well it looks like you wouldn't be fined $1,000 your first offense but you could get fined up to that amount for subsequent offenses. You said ID was being duplititous (sp) for posting the headline. Well unless you read the 37 page report you wouldn't know you wouldn't get fined your first time. I saw four Facebook friends from LA post this article today. Were they all being dupilitious by doing so?

Actually, the maximum fine for unauthorized bee tossing appears to be $500 for the third offense and any offenses thereafter, so the "up to $1,000" isn't accurate either.

Ok, so I'm not trying to stand up for ID but what is duplitious (sp) about the OP?

In my view, nothing at all. She got bad info. If what was reported was actually true, I would think it's pretty fucking outrageous, too.

Zappa sees it differently.

She got her "facts" from CBS...the SAME CBS she and so many other lambasted for making shit up.

Remember Dan Rather?

When it's convenient, she derides CBS as part of the "liberal media", but when it helps further along the preposterous conservative fear of an all consuming nanny state, she's all for what they write.

Well that sounds like a personal thing between you two.

The truth is right there in the second paragraph of ID's post...

fines UP TO $1,000.00...

It's a phony, attention getting headline used to pull you in.

You really going to defend CBS on this? The same CBS people constantly criticize as being a part of the "Liberal media"?

You guys lambaste them for maiking shit up and then buy into something like this whole cloth because it supports your theory about the nanny state...

you should have read the entire thread before posting the above. They CAN be fined for football throwing. $100 first time, $200 second time, $500 third time for violations in the same year.

The story got it wrong by saying $1000, which seems to be a common mistake. But you are an idiot to mock her for posting the story, because it IS a perfect example of government going overly big brother. Whether it is $100 or a $1000, it is fucking moronic to charge someone for throwing a football.

Yeah...it was only INCORRECT when it came to the HEADLINE and the UNDERLYING PREMISE...but other than that...

btw...anyone with any brains knows not to go to the beach because no one goes swimming in the "ocean" off of LA unless you're really interested in catching some kind of disease...

The underlying premise is correct. You can indeed be fined for throwing a football or frisbee. It is moronic.

No one goes to the beach in LA? Really? I was quite unaware of that.

I love the line that something that never happened is a perfect example. I guess so, except for the fact that it's not real. You know what else is a good example of the government going overly big brother? The government moved in to my house when I was a kid and I was forced to share a room with it and it got the top bunk and beat me up and made fun of me in front of my girlfriend and stuff. It was, like, THE perfect example of the government being all big brother.

For the record, I think it's moronic to fine someone for throwing a football unless the person has been repeatedly warned and continues to do it after being told numerous times not to, which I suspect is how this plays out in the real world.

Dung knows all... even when everyone disagrees with him. According to him, the Great Depression ended in 1933. FDR did not lead us out of the Great Depression. People who claim to have lived during it in the latter 1930's are liars. Historians are incorrect when describing the Great Depression period as lasting until WWII. They are all wrong, because Dung says so.

Don't you talk about Dune, in such a manner.
Dune and Yurt had shown me that they have intelligence beyond comparison, when it comes to these forums.

Just ask them and they'll tell you. :)

The fact of the matter is that people CAN be charged up to $500 for a football throwing violation. Which is complete bullshit. But Dung approves of the government controlling every aspect of our lives. Next up... should we be allowed to speak in public as someone could get offended. The government should protect us by mandating what we are allowed to do. At no time should anyone be at risk of harm from anything. So lets all prepare ourselves for government mandated bubbles.

Bubbles are unsafe.
They can pop, without warning, and injure someone.

Hey...as long as he gets to belittle a couple Liberal posters...who cares if he's "factually correct" or not?

The above shows just how lost poor lil Dung is. He just starts babbling nonsensically.

I'm trying to understand the thinking of the council here. So even though this rule probably won't be enforced they want to have a law on the books that says they can fine someone if they repeatedly break the rule? Would this have come about because a rouge individual or two have been causing problems and the council felt they were powerless to do something about it without this law? Or are they basically trying to 'scare' people into not playing football or frisbee on the beach with the threat of a fine?

There's you admitting the story got it wrong...so a factually incorrect headline is a PERFECT EXAMPLE of our government nanny state? That's the point Dung was making and which went right over your head.

So one must conclude it's acceptable to you if I make up some ludicrous nonsense and claim it's a perfect example of RightWing intolerance.

It is factually correct that they can be fined up to $500. As I stated. I posted the evidence above. Perhaps you should actually try reading it.

Too bad the headline ID posted wasn't as factually correct as your post above...perhaps if SHE HAD READ the article we wouldn't be bogged down debating the petty details at this point.

The law has always been on the books. They just clarified it. It used to say that you can't play with a ball other than "an inflated rubber ball not less than 10 inches in diameter" (which I'm guessing refers to a beach ball). Now it says you can't can't play with a ball other than a "beach ball or a volleyball."

I'm guessing original thinking was that they should have some enforcement mechanism other than a lifeguard continuously yelling at someone to no effect.

It's like my sainted mama always used to say...

"There's always someone who__________________________."

Fill in the blank.

If only everyone could be counted on to think and look out, there wouldn't be a need for an ordinance like this...unfortunately there's always someone who...

valid criticism.....from now on consistently disregard CBS......

Having grown up in CA I happen to know that people bring Frisbee; footballs; volleyballs; baseballs etc to the beach to play. Another 'ordinance" is a fine for digging holes in the sand deeper then 18 inches. No more digging in the sand.

I note the beached whale bemoaning the inaccuracies in the reports headline... I do wonder though if apart from his flailing about over the headline, if he supports this kind of moronic over-reach by elected officials.
