The Catechism has this to say about masturbation:

2352 By masturbation is to be understood the deliberate stimulation of the genital organs in order to derive sexual pleasure. "Both the Magisterium of the Church, in the course of a constant tradition, and the moral sense of the faithful have been in no doubt and have firmly maintained that masturbation is an intrinsically and gravely disordered action."138 "The deliberate use of the sexual faculty, for whatever reason, outside of marriage is essentially contrary to its purpose." For here sexual pleasure is sought outside of "the sexual relationship which is demanded by the moral order and in which the total meaning of mutual self-giving and human procreation in the context of true love is achieved."139

To form an equitable judgment about the subjects' moral responsibility and to guide pastoral action, one must take into account the affective immaturity, force of acquired habit, conditions of anxiety or other psychological or social factors that lessen, if not even reduce to a minimum, moral culpability.

So the Catechism is basically saying "don't do it." It's difficult at times but with God's grace all things are possible. It's a great way to live, I highly recommend it.

Masturbation in the Bible
There are several sections that one could apply to masturbation. In Matthew 5:28 Jesus says:

"You have heard that it was said, 'Do not commit adultery.' But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.

um... yeah... and do tell us what masturbation has to do with murder? The Catholic Church stating 'don't masturbate' has nothing to do with masturbation = murder.

St. Thomas Aquinas, along with many early church father thought there was a fully formed human in male sperm, a homunculus. It is why the church had such backwards thinking on masturbation and other sexual acts. They did not understand biology either and how both sperm and the egg played a part in conception.

There are some enlightened bishops and church hierarchy that are trying to change the thinking of the church, but it is a long, slow process.

It is some comical and disgusting reading concerning the early churches teachings on abortion, contraception and masturbation. Infantcide was a wide spread practice of early humans as was abandonment.

HA, ha, of course they did! That's fabulous. Perfect. That's exactly what they would think. They could have done away with women completely if only they could have figured out how to incubate those fully formed sperm-people.

Yeah, good old Aquinas believed that the perfect humans were male, those embryos that were damaged became female.

We also transferred original sin to our progenecy. Women were a necessary evil, as you stated.

LOL you know what's sad? A lot of that male supremacist attitude has stayed with men till this day. I mean that's male supremacy boiled down to its most basic. Amazing.
