The Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation has announced that it will no longer provide funds for breast cancer screenings and prevention to Planned Parenthood. The Foundation has recently been the focus of a campaign by the anti-abortion Life Issues Institute because it also performs abortions and maintains it is one of the largest chain of abortion mills in the US.

The Association Press has reported that the Komen Foundation gave $650,000 to Planned Parenthood in 2011.

Yeah, this is causing a lot of problems, and will continue to do so. I have friends, a couple who are breast cancer survivors, who I sponsor every year in the komen race for the cure here in NYC. I have even done it myself, but only once, I didn't care for the overly-corporate messaging, and I absolutely hated the "save the tata's" merchandise. But I could never give another penny to Komen so there is no way I will sponsor again.

That money is going to PP's emergency breast cancer screening fund, and Komen can take their "race for the cure for some women" and stick it. I always had some problems with them, but this is the point of no return.

Come on, Planned Parenthood does not do anything but force abortions upon poor women....

Why would they need funding for breast cancer screenings?

Ya know I've always thought that if conservatives actually gave a damn about providing for and educating the children we have and providing opportunities for our young adults to have a future then we probably wouldn't need groups like Planned Parenthood.

It reminds me of the same story about what conservatives have done to small towns in this country. They have devestated their economy so that most jobs are at Wallmart or McD's, the young kids abandon these towns in droves to find educational and employment opportunties while the old white conservatives still continue to vote for the same old conservative politicians whose same old conservative policies have destroyed the ecnomies of rural and small town America and then you hear them bitching, "Why don't our kids want to live here anymore?"

No we would still need Planned parenthood because they provide health care to women (and men!), including birth control, breast cancer and cervical cancer screenings.

Here's a really great fact sheet about PP:

http://www.plannedparenthood.org/files/PPFA/PP_Services.pdf

Abortion makes up only 3% of their services.

I know I used to volenteer at a PP clinic...

However, ask Damocles.. He belives all they do is try to force abortions on poor women.

The outrage over the cut in funding for breast cancer screenings has caused a huge surge in donations specifically earmarked for breast cancer awareness & screenings.

Its sad that an organization tried to prove they are pro-life by eliminating $650k in donations for early detection of breast cancer.

That's the twitter feed for the Senior VP of Komen. Schilling for Sarah Palin! You betcha!

Komen has become a political organization. Frankly I never liked them. They were always a merchandising corporation as far as I was concerned. And they have been around for 30 years and raised over a billion dollars for "the cure" and where are we? You are at a higher risk of getting breast cancer and dying of it than you were 30 years ago! I think they are a bunch of bs but I always sponsored my friends who did the race for the cure. Now I can no longer bite my tongue and make out the check. I am with Planned Parenthood, an organization that was there for me when I was young and needed care. Now like so many other women who received help from Planned Parenthood when they needed it, I am there for them. Komen has corporate america. Planned Parenthood has us.

conservatives are responsible for walmart and mcdonalds???

:palm:

If I were you, I'd be uncomfortable to have Mott voting in that poll. :D

Mott doesn't like SF, so even though he probably thinks I am an irrational woman because I have given him a bunch of crap in the past about certain things, I think he is more apt to want to avenge himself against SF who always calls him a "f***ing moron" and "you F***ing MUTT".

Don't worry, I have won elections before 3D. True not since college, but still...I am a pretty good strategist. Pretty, pretty good.

Hey it's like this 3D. I'm crazy and I'm aware that I'm crazy. Since I'm aware that I'm crazy and it takes a rational thought process to draw such a conclusion I there fore can't be crazy. Since I have now rationalized that I am not crazy I obviously am in denial which means I really am crazy but since I really am crazy and I am aware that I am crazy and it took a rational process of my mind to realize I am crazy, I really can't be crazy but.......

At least you're placing the blame for the lost funding where it belongs.......

The investigation of PP is the legitimate DUTY of Congress for oversight of spending of tax payers money

if there are no problems PP should come out better than ever.
