The above is probably the most detailed I have seen that describes the accounts (and bad recollections on the daughter you mention) from the different parties.

Bottom line, I would like to see Apple's evidence that the second divorce was also done in the hospital blah blah blah... Bottom line, he is either blatantly continuing the lie or is determined to remain ignorant of the facts of the matter.

Slow down there, Superfreak. I never said both took place in a hospital. I said both partners had contracted serious illnesses. Maybe if you'd spend time reading instead of jumping to conclusions you'd be better off.

LMAO... so you are going to shift away from the first lie and onto the second unsubstantiated lie. What a swell guy.

According to Fact Check... Gingrich's wife at the time was contesting the divorce that was filed for by Gingrich. He went by the hospital with his daughters to see how she was doing. They ended up getting into a fight about the divorce. There is a huge difference between that and 'he went to the hospital to specifically talk about the divorce.' line of crap that the left is now tossing around since their original LIE has been blown out of the water.

I know you're a Repub but do try to understand it's "bad form" to visit someone in the hospital and argue with them. Are you capable of grasping that? And as for lies I said he argued about the divorce with his wife while she was in the hospital. Whether he went there to deliver papers or bring flowers the point is she didn't argue with herself.

Well, at least you have a neutral non-biased source for the claim. I mean, Gingrich has no incentive to lie now does he?

No, I'm saying that's what he did, according to his then wife, according to YOUR source:

Now, Gingrich has has plenty of opportunity since 1985 to say that he did not want to discuss the terms of his divorce during the hospital visit and that his wife, fresh out of surgery, insisted on it, but I haven't seen him make that claim. And it isn't a terribly believable scenario that she really really wanted to discuss divorce terms in a divorce she was contesting while she was recovering from surgery and Newt came to visit her uninvited (recall that the kids asked if it was OK for Daddy to come up).

It's like trying to get through a brick wall.

Actually, I know that they discussed divorce terms. That much we should all be able to agree on. From there we look at her statement, the circumstances surrounding the visit, and at his non-denial of what she said occurred (they argued is about all Newt has said notwithstanding multiple opportunities to correct the record) and we can each decide for ourselves what version of events sounds more plausible. That a woman fresh out of surgery whose husband (separated, pending a divorce that she is contesting) shows up uninvited at the hospital decided to talk terms or that Newt brought the matter up.

Moreover, even if you believe that she brought it up, what kind of person actually engages in an argument over divorce terms with a person fresh out of surgery? The fact that they argued over the issue is repulsive enough.

Such a wonderful fellow, that Newt Gingrich!

Exactly! That's the part that's stuck entering SF's brain.

According to what I understand, from what his daughters (and her daughters) said, she had served him the papers for the divorce. What do you mean she was contesting the divorce? That doesn't seem plausible at all.

According to the woman's daughter, his wife requested the divorce.

CNN found the records of the divorce and it looks like he filed the petition.

According to the documents Newt and his wife filed in court, he sought the divorce and she contested it. Follow SF's link. So we know at least one inaccuracy in their version of events. Which is to be expected. They were kids.

Yep, looks like Newt was the p.o.s. we always thought he was.

June 14, 1980:
The divorce filings, unearthed by CNN, show that Newt Gingrich left Jackie for good, 5 days before their wedding anniversary.
July 14, 1980:
Newt Gingrich filed for divorce.
August 14, 1980:
Jackie Battley Gingrich acknowledged receipt of the divorce filing.

September 12, 1980:
Jackie Battley Gingrich’s lawyers responded to Newt’s divorce petition, contesting the divorce. Specifically, her filing read:

Defendant shows that she has ample and adequate grounds for divorce, but that she does not desire one at this time.

She additionally requested alimony and child support, as Newt left her with two children to care for, a reasonable split of the marital property were the divorce to be granted, and lawyers fees.

September 25, 1980: Jackie Battley Gingrich’s attorneys filed documents demanding Newt Gingrich’s financial records.
October 7, 1980: Jackie Battley Gingrich’s lawyers filed their notice to depose Newt Gingrich in the divorce case on October 20, 1980.
October 13, 1980: Jackie Battley Gringrich’s attorneys filed a motion for a jury trial in the divorce case. They also filed documents demanding that the court become involved in the financial aspects of the case, as Newt Gingrich had refused to release his financial information or provide any means to Jackie to support their children or maintain her residence. That hearing was scheduled for October 21, 1980.
October 17, 1980: Newt Gingrich’s attorneys filed a successful motion to reschedule his deposition October 20 to November 10, 1980.

October 21, 1980: Jackie Battley Gingrich filed out paperwork asking for $2036 in itemized monthly expenses for herself and their two daughters:

  • $514 for housing
    $340 for food
    $200 for clothing
    $19 for water
    $40 for electricity
    $40 for gas
    $50 for telephone service
    $149 for medical care
    $50 for dental care
    $90 for medicine
    $25 for child care
    $60 for school expenses
    $65 for the car payment
    $26 for health insurance
    $100 for taxes
    $100 for recreation
    $40 to their church
    $10 for their exterminator
    $10 for gifts
    $15 for “beauty parlor subscriptions”
Attached was an estimate of Gingrich’s gross monthly income from Congress ($5,015.21), which, after taxes and insurance payments, was an estimated net of $3.341.24. He claimed to be spending money on houses in Fairfax and Arlington, the utilities on a Virginia house, $407 a month on food, $75 on an orthodontist and $477 a month on his various bank debts unrelated to any mortgages. He also had $120 — due in 4 remaining payments — to Cole’s jewelry store. (Marianne Ginther Gingrich told Esquire that he’d already asked her to marry him at that point.)
December 17, 1980: After the October 21, 1980 hearing, Newt Gingrich was ordered to pay $300 a month in child support and $400 in alimony for the foreseeable future, in addition to the mortgage on the Georgia home, Jackie and their children’s medical bills, all the outstanding utility bills on the Georgia home, payments on the car Jackie was driving and $750 to Jackie’s attorney.
January 9, 1981: Newt Gingrich was ordered to appear at a deposition for Jackie’s attorneys on January 14, 1981.
January 31, 1981: Jackie and Newt Gingrich agreed to the terms of their divorce.
February 2, 1981: Newt Gingrich petitioned for a final decree in his divorce from Jackie, and the divorce is finalized. Newt agreed to pay $200 a month in child support for each daughter until they turned 18 or, if they attended college, until they completed a 4-year degree program or turned 23; as well as all the children’s medical and dental bills and for their insurance. He was also ordered to keep Jackie on his insurance policy until she could qualify for individual insurance without a medical examination, due to her cancer diagnosis (a pre-existing condition); and to pay $1,000 per month in alimony with increases up to $1,300/month as Gingrich’s income increased up to $100,000. They split the title on the Georgia house, with Gingrich assuming the second mortgage, and she ceded the Virginia home to him, and each got the possessions in the house at the time. Jackie kept the car she was driving and Newt continued to make the payments on it.

That's it...stay focused on the details...that way you won't have address the underlying situation...that Gingrich CHEATED ON HIS FIRST TWO WIVES. He dishonored his marriage and the oath he took before God to remain faithful to his wife.

Just imagine if he had been President and his last name was Clinton. :)

Oh, so you not only know Newt's mental state going into the hospital visit, you know that she was not surprised when Newt said he wanted a divorce?

I'm think of a number between one and eleventy billion. Can you guess it?

I know what NEWT stated his intentions were. He is the only one that knows HIS intentions.

Yes, we know she lied about being surprised in the hospital that Newt wanted a divorce... the proceedings had been ongoing. There are actually records of such.

according to fact check, the daughters recollection was wrong. Just as the lefts non stop 'he served her papers on her death bed' was proven wrong. Now the left wants us to believe they KNOW that Newt went to the hospital to talk about the divorce. Whatever they can do to make him appear more evilz.

Maybe you ought to quote her about being surprised in the hospital. I've never read that she was surprised in the hospital that Newt wanted a divorce, just that she was surprised that Newt wanted a divorce. It is indeed a strange thing to suggest that she would be surprised about the fact that he wanted a divorce a few months after the papers were filed, but I don't think she said what you claim she said.

I don't know who "the left" is. All I want people to KNOW is that Newt Gingrich sought to discuss the terms of his divorce with his wife while she was in the hospital recovering for surgery related to uterine cancer.

LMAO... it takes two to argue... on that we agree. Clearly none of you have been around a couple going through divorce. Clearly none of you have ever gotten into arguments in places where in hindsight you would not have.

Except you are PROJECTING that. You don't KNOW that is what he 'sought'. Do you not get the difference? Are you too fucking slow to grasp it? It is one thing to say he went there with the intention of arguing the divorce. It is another for the argument to have spontaneously erupted. YOU want to paint him as evil. Just as I stated. That is why YOU are projecting INTENT upon Gingrich.

You know what, he left one wife while she had cancer and another after she was diagnosed with MS. There's really no way to spin that, regardless of whether we were in the room and know what he said/she said.

I don't see how any of this even matters or why the right is getting so defensive. I don't think Newt can become the nominee. I have read he doesn't even have the delegates in place. And he's got the entire Republican establishment against him. It's still going to be Romney from what I can gather.

Newt's a slime, women know it, but he's never going to be President so who really cares? You can swing a dead cat in any club on any give night and hit nine more just like him. They often have a white band of skin where their wedding ring usually sits.

I like your use of the passive voice there. That's cute. While arguments may "spontaneously erupt," the topics being argued are raised by one or more of the parties to the argument. Where Gingrich has not disputed his ex-wife's version of events, that he wanted to discuss the terms of the divorce, I don't see how you can claim that I have made an incorrect statement.

Nevertheless, to appease you, I guess we can all now agree that Gingrich discussed the terms of his divorce with his ex-wife while she was in the hospital recovering from uterine surgery and he showed up uninvited.

The Right and SF in particular are so worked up over this due to the simple fact that they absolutely CANNOT STAND it when any Liberal is right about ANYTHING!

Think about it...they are defending a scumbag who CHEATED ON HIS FIRST TWO WIVES, yet they have spent the past few DAYS quibbling with us over the "particulars" about a hospital visit.

LMAO... typical lefty nonsense. Just because I am correcting LIES the left likes to propagate, does not mean I am defending Gingrich's cheating on his wives.

As for the 'quibbling'... like Newts argument with his wife... it takes two. When fact check shows your lies to be LIES... perhaps you should just accept that. Then we wouldn't have to explain for 'DAYS' why you are wrong over and over and over again.

"like Newts argument with his wife... it takes two."

Do you really believe it always takes two? Let's say you got married and five years later you were diagnosed with MS (God forbid). And then six months after that your wife filed for divorce. If you were arguing with her about her action, I wouldn't say that you were at fault. You'd have a right to be pissed, and for your own mental health, you would be wise to express it.

There's enough clouds hanging around this guy and he's engaged in enough dubious behavior that I just feel sorry for the women who married him. He's a bad catch. Any woman who gets a nibble from him should throw him back.
