Yes Jarod. Double digit inflation, double digit unemployment... a high inflationary environment has a far worse impact on our standard of living and purchasing power. It was far worse for the middle class than what we have today. It isn't even close.

It took me about 30 seconds to get the cite below. You can pull up all types of comparisons, the one that proves my above statement is the one that compares recessions with a bar chart. 2007 was by far the worst.

the one that came up when I hit the link showed that the 1981 recession had rebounded 4% in a year while the current one had rebounded 2% in 42 months......does this make you conclude the current one is "worse" or make you conclude it wasn't dealt with as effectively?.....

from what I see for the first 12-15 months of each recession things parallel.....then, about the time Obama took office it nosedives and tracks worse.....
 
I like this site.....click on recession by state and compare 81 to 2007 for each of the swing states Obama needs to win in order to get re-elected.....if the GOP uses these as campaign tools in each of those states Obama will retire to the speaking circuit soon......

take that chart and set the time lapse at one month into the recession.....then advance it one month at a time......notice how the 1981 damage starts to decline, notice how the 2007 recession starts to worsen.....that is the impact of measures taken to solve the problem.....notice how 17 months after the recession began, only the 2007 recession hasn't been resolved......that would bring us to what, late 2010?......

The cite was to show that the recession was one of the worst ever, and that the recovery has been proportional.

Please open your eyes and try to see past your desperation to attack me... I never said the economic recovery was better now than in 81'. I said the recession was worse this time than it was in the late 70's so a slower recovery was to be expected.

They are saying it was the 'worst' because of the number of points unemployment and economic output fell. But when you actually look at the economy and how it affected the middle class... the early 80's were far worse for the middle class. It isn't even close.

Twist and spin, I am talking about economics not images of how the middle class faired. I am talking about how sick the patient (economy) was that was presented to the doctor (president).

You are trying to say, ya but my patient's big toe was in more pain that that of the guy with the terminal cancer.

Did people see their purchasing power erode as they did in the late 70's/early 80's? No, they did not. The reason the MN Fed site you posted states that the 2007 recession was DEEPER, was because they look a the total point drop of unemployment and economic output. When unemployment runs high PRIOR to the official technical definition of a recession, it is going to be shallower in those terms. But in terms of impact on the middle and lower classes, the late 70's early 80's was a far worse time economically.

LMAO... you are NOT talking about economics Jarod. You are trying to use data that you don't understand because you think it makes your point. The data does NOT support your claim that the recession was worse. Period. The economy was FAR sicker then that it was in 2007. Period.

The problem Jarod is that Obama didn't focus on the economy. He instead tried to ram Obama care down our throats. He ignored the economy for over a year Jarod. THAT is a large reason we saw such a delay in recovery. Add in the fact that he spent (I mean 'invested) the bulk of the stimulus money in handouts to public sector workers and it is clear why this 'recovery' has been so abysmal.

Now you are just outright lying Jarod. Post 29. I asked you to post the data you were using that would back up your CLAIM that it took Reagan 'a little over three years' to recover. THAT is what I asked you for Jarod. Then in post 39 you responded with the 'I am too tired'
