I will never support Newt Gingrich

Rationalist

Hail Voltaire
Gingrich frequently claims that if Romney wins the nomination, Obama will win reelection next November, emphasizing his apparent belief that he is somehow the only candidate capable of defeating the President (despite the fact that virtually every poll indicates otherwise). When it comes to Gingrich's arrogance, however, this is merely the tip of the iceberg.

The fact of the matter is, I know many conservatives who would find it much more difficult to support Gingrich than Romney, myself included. I could vote for Romney, based on his business experience. I also believe Romney is basically a decent human being. Gingrich, by contrast, is a morally bankrupt, hypocritical opportunist who will say anything for power.

If I had to choose between Gingrich and Obama, I'd vote for Obama. If Gingrich does in fact win the nomination, I will probably vote for Gary Johnson or write-in Ron Paul. One thing is for certain: there is no way in hell I will vote for Newt Gingrich. He is scum.

I'm failing to see a difference, policy wise, between the two, or between them and Obama. As it stands though, newt is correct. Romney does not command enough votes to beat Obama. Neither does Newt.

As far as policy is concerned, the difference is that Romney built a successful company (several, actually) and commands an understanding of economics. Even if he is a bit of a crony capitalist, he will surely do a better job than the community organizer currently occupying the White House, an economic illiterate who thinks food stamps create jobs. I believe Romney can and probably will defeat Barack Obama.

Please name one difference. What will Romney do differently? What is his policy on foreign envolvement, and how is it different than Obamas? What business incentives will he use to try and jump start jobs? What's his energy policy? I ask, because more and more this election, and previous ones, have been dumbed down. People are running on the ;m not Bush' or 'im not Obama', not how they will effect a different direction nationally.

I agree with you in the main. I guess my hope is that Gingrich 'comes to adopt' his talking points, though he and the rest of us would be hard pressed to tie those to past positions. Same with Romney. Which is why I sit here in mid-January thinking Obama may get a second term.

Under normal circumstances that would rate a 'GD it!', but here? Now? Scary times.

Romney favors cutting the corporate tax, which is currently among the highest in the developed world. He has also said that he will control spending and favors expanding drilling, neither of which seem high on Obama's priority list. The Keystone pipeline alone would create hundreds of thousands of jobs.

I agree that it has been dumbed down, but what are our options? Ron Paul won't win the nomination, simply because the system is rigged against him. My thought is that Romney may at least provide some degree of stability, fostering an environment for growth. Unpredictability is the main reason the economy isn't growing.

Romney is a wishy-washy moderate, utterly unelectable. Newt is a Grade A sleaze, equally unelectable.

Looks like I'm writing in Mortimer Snerd. If we're going to have a dummy in the White House, let's make it official.
