why do we continue to vote millionaires in to high political offices thinking that they are going to do something that benefits us, we the people, and all the time we ignore the lamestream media's endorsement of those same millionaires? do most of you not realize that our elections are fixed by corporatism and the media?

millionaires usually know other wealthy people...those with money, win elections

unless a truly charasmatic centrist runs, they will never get the funds necessary
 
This is typical of the kind of media slime jobs we are going to see in the coming months. If you read carefully, there is actually nothing to the story... Mitt Romney has money invested... that is all. How many of us didn't know that? The fact that it's in the Cayman Islands means absolutely nothing. As the article explains, Mitt pays the same tax rate regardless of location, because he is a US citizen. The story keeps mentioning Mitt's "lower rate" but capital gains is taxed at 15% for everyone, not just Mitt. So what we have is an emotive hit piece, designed to appeal to left-wing OWS-type idiots, who don't understand investments or finance, and who have obviously been focus-grouped to find they have some subliminal negativity for the Cayman Islands.

I challenge you... read the story, find where it says Mitt Romney has done something wrong, illegal, unethical, or corrupt? You can't! There is NOTHING here! They have taken the fact that a wealthy man makes investments, and turned it into an emotive blunt object, and called it 'credible journalism.'

If there's nothing to it, why are you so damned defensively about it? The optics look like shit and the longer Willard refuses to release his tax returns, the worse it looks. I'm guessing he files a clean, plain vanilla tax return this year and releases it while keeping his old ones under wraps.

First of all, the people we elect to the presidency tend to be wealthier than average because it takes a lot of money to run for president. Through the years, we've whittled down the amount of money candidates can receive in contributions, so it becomes increasingly important the candidate is wealthy, so they can tap into their personal resources when needed.

When you state that the elections are "fixed by corporations and the media" what do you mean? Literally or figuratively? Because, I don't believe that we all go cast our votes, then they just throw the ballots away and put the people in office the corporate machine wants. I just don't think that is what is happening in the reality we live in. Do you? Now, from a figurative sense, millions of dollars spent on ad campaigns, dirt-digging, skeleton-rattlers, fact-finders, etc... Media putting out garbage like the OP above... Yeah, that does influence a lot of really gullible people who should know better. The solution to this problem is for people to be less gullible....good luck with that!

As for the point you make about wealthy people not caring about the rest of us... I disagree. Why is it, you all want to believe that rich people HATE those who aren't rich? That they don't CARE about you, or anyone else in the world? Where the hell does this line of thinking come from? Does it just not occur to you that wealthy people need for the rest of us to be happy, prosperous, content with life? Their investment portfolios only show promise when the people are happy, prosperous, working... When we have massive unemployment, and no economic growth, when people are depressed and lack confidence, the wealthy people aren't making money.

I'm not defensive about anything, but there really isn't anything to defend here. The man made investments... big woop! I'm guessing we'll probably get Mitt's financial records before we get Obama's education records, care to place a wager on it?

since you have decided to go completely literal with my statements and your responses, let me be perfectly direct in saying that the only way in which the wealthy politicians care about us average folk is we are a commodity to them. without us, they would find it impossible to be wealthy. Both in us as consumers and us as their labor. they have zero desire to make things more equal for us to be our own business owners or wealthy in our own right.

Again, I must ask what planet you are posting from. "Whittled the amount of money" down? Have you lost it? Did you see how much Obama raised & spent in the last election? Did you see how much was spent on the election in general?

So you're betting me that Willard will produce something that all candidate always produce before Obama produces something that not all candidates produce. Yeah, that sounds like a fair wager.
