What is your opinion? Mormons Christians?

We had some dude preach at my Grandmother's funeral like this. I can't believe my mother paid for that.

I am so sorry, it just takes away from the person who has died and their families. He could have waited till the wake, then we could have pelted him with hor dourves.

I just felt so bad for the good Doctor, to be put on the spot like that, and he is such a lovely, lovely man who has devoted his whole life to God.

I went to a funeral last night, my friends brother. He was an alcoholic and was also addicted to cocaine. The family was very open at the funeral about his addiction. His sister read a letter he had written before his death to be read at the funeral, he apologized to all he had hurt because if his lifestyle, everyone in the Chapel was crying.

Then the cousin stood up, he is a missionionary who also was addicted to cocaine until he was "saved", he then started to give his personal testimony to Jesus Christ and asked everyone to stand and committ themselves to Jesus. The discomfort in the room was so thick you could have cut it with a knife. I heard one lady whisper, this is so inaapropriate.

It got worse, when no one stood, he called out a Baptist minister, this gentle man has a Doctorate in Divinity, he had spoken earlier and had told a personal story about the deceased and the only mention he made of his beliefs was that R. was now in the arms of his Savior and sited a Bible verse. The minister did not stand and also did not comment, I felt bad for him having been put on the spot, but it was obvious he had already given his life to God. The room was so silent you could have heard a pin drop. The cousin finally realized that no one was going to come to God at that moment and he sighed and left the podium, in fact he left the funeral.

I am always horrified that some people use a funeral to "preach", I feel it is not the time to ask people to come to Jesus. I felt so bad for the family. I felt so bad for all those in attendance.

A Baptist Minister did something very simular at my grandmothers funeral, I was offended but Im sure my grandmother would have approved... so what can you do.

the title to your thread begins with bigotry...creating suspicion that Mormons are not Christians......you proceeded downhill from there casting aspersions on all Christianity....

Agree with the sentiment. People always seem to need to be noticed at a funeral it's as though if they don't do something to stand out they haven't really been there. There is a reason that both the family funerals I have attended have been small private affairs.

As a side question when you say doctorate in Divinity did you mean Doctorate in Theology?

Asking a question is bigotry? Where am I "casting aspersions"?

What is your defination of Bigorty because it seems to be very different in your mind...

1. I don't recall but I will look it up.

Mormon or Moroni probably buried the plates, but it isn't discussed in any literature., that I know of, unless one of the modern Prophets clarified it.

Moroni told Joseph where to find the plates and kept him from retrieiving them until Joseph fourth attempt, because Joseph did not follow instructions.

2. Dead -- and in the Celestial kingdom.

It depends on if you believe Pratt or Young as to where the Brigham Young is after his death

3. No. We will be reunited and reside together in the Celestial kingdom.

Again, it depends which Prophet you believe. There was a scism due to the teachings of Young.

this game makes you look even worse than the stupid shit you posted in the first place.......

I think the schism was primarily the result of disagreement over succession, e.g. whether Smith's successor should be Young or Smith's son. The RLDS Church (now known as Community of Christ) went with Smith's son.

However, judging by the lack of many of LDS' unique doctrines in the CoC, I'd say you're at least partially correct. RDLS rejects celestial marriage, baptism by proxy, and many other teachings that developed very late in Joseph Smith's term or under Brigham Young.

When my ex-wife's grandfather died, the funeral was conducted by a baptist minister. He started off by telling us all that he was not sure that V. had been saved or even believed in Jesus. He then went on to talk about his very vagabond life style. V. used to travel to Venezuela a lot, always had a shite ton of cash on him, and months after he died we found out he was not only married to my wife's step grandmother, but also married a young woman from Venezuela and moved her and her kids to Miami. After the sermon about V. most likely being in hell, the minister then went on to attack members of the family. He did his little spiel on homosexuality (V.'s son is gay), his spiel on living together in sin, (My ex-wife's sister was living with a man) and the horrors of being an atheist (directed at me). It was a vile and despicable way to send off a man that when I knew him was a kind and generous, if not somewhat eccentric guy. I once referred to V. as the only living fictional character I had ever met. After the sermon, I walked up to the minister, who weighed in somewhere in the lower 400's and told him he forgot one group. He asked who that was. I replied, "The Gluttons". Fortunately for all involved, he did not show up after the funeral for I am sure there would have been to little food for him and the rest of us.

Most religious folks are alright but then their are the self righteous ones who just make the rest of us want to beat them to death with a baseball bat. To all those out there with a need to preach, remember there is a time and place for it, the time is "when you are alone" and the place is "your basement"

lol....I consider your brains redacted.....

If you could make any type of argument to support your claim that I have been bigoted I would retract my statement about your false outrage. Alas, you cant, you just make silly statements like...your statement was bigoted, then follow up with nothing to support that claim.!
