Jobs Report

Good news:

The nation’s gloomy jobs picture continued to brighten in December as employers added 200,000 jobs, pushing the unemployment rate down to 8.5 percent, the Labor Department reported Friday.

Private employers added 212,00 jobs, moving the total of private-sector jobs created in 2011 to 1.9 million. Governments, particularly at the local level, cut jobs — 12,000 last month — holding overall job growth for the year to 1.6 million.

Still, the jobless rate has declined by 0.6 percent since August, and it now stands at its lowest level in nearly three years.

But not good enough:

It’s nice to add 200,000 jobs in a single month, but, as this graph from the Hamilton Project shows, at that rate, it will take well over a decade to fully recover from the Lesser Depression.

Positive employment news - or any good economic news - will never be enough to satisfy the right while Obama is in office, even though they touted Bush as a great fiscal leader.

Their hate campaign will continue unabated.

Actually, Dungheap is not a republican. And I don't know of anybody who touts Bush II was a great fiscal leader. I spent 8 years pointing out that he was not conservative. From the Pill Bill to Education to Immigration, Bush II was not a conservative. The only thing he could remotely be considered a "conservative" on would be his stubborn insistence to not allow stem cell research. I couldn't even donate my second child's umbilical for stem cell research like I did with my first child's because they could only use "existing lines"...

If the trend continues to decline from here even if only a little further, it is going to be tough to get rid of Obama with the crop of Reps currently running.

Reagan won in 84 despite a high unemployment rate because the rate was trending down and people were seeing signs of continued improvement. The biggest two hurdles in our way to recovery are the European debt problem (and no, more debt is not the solution) and our future tax law changes. Europe can either choose to take the pain now and have a more controlled recession or they can continue trying to push the problem into the future and have it blow up in their faces.

We are walking a similar path, just about a decade behind them. We can either take some pain now or we can let it blow up on future generations. Obviously no incumbent wants to see the economy take pain during an election year (we can use Carter as a prime example of this) so I anticipate more stop gap bullshit through this year from the two parties and then the big decision will rest with the new Congress (and potentially new President) next year.

you'll need to take your shoes off to count the industries Obuma has attacked.
Like a lot of dems, he's great on social issues and socially aukward at business.

Cite your evidence, Stoner Groaner.
