It hasn’t been a good month for the GOP and election fraud.

Two weeks ago, a Maryland jury convicted a Republican official who oversaw illegal voter-suppression tactics in the 2010 election.

This week, a state judge found that Indiana’s Secretary of State, Republican Charlie White, not only committed voter fraud in 2010, but wasn't even eligible to seek the office to which he was elected.
  • Charlie White is ineligible to serve as Secretary of State and should be replaced by his election opponent, Democrat Vop Osili, a Marion County judge ruled. White is facing seven felony charges, including allegations of voter fraud. Osili was the second-highest vote-getter in the November 2010 election.
Besides the obvious embarrassment of the state official who is in charge of elections being indicted on charges of voter registration fraud, it’s just perfect that this happened in Indiana, because Indiana paved the way for the voter suppression laws we’re seeing all over the country.

Indiana has one of the most restrictive voter ID laws in the country, and that didn’t stop their top elections official from registering and voting in the wrong place.

That’s because voter ID laws target the imaginary problem of voter impersonation fraud, while doing next to nothing to address the fraud that actually occurs.

Quite right.

Republicans nationwide keep putting new hurdles between voters and the ballot box, ostensibly because they fear the scourge of fraud.

The irony is, the deceit Republicans are worried about is imaginary, while the real-world fraud is coming from their side of the political divide.

:awesome:

A chief of staff to former Maryland Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich (R) was found guilty on four counts including election fraud for his role in setting up robocalls intended to surpress minority voting turnout in the final hours of Election Day last year.

Paul Schurick’s trial took place in Baltimore Circuit Court, where he was brought up on charges of conspiracy, election fraud and a charge relating to his failure to include a disclosure on the robocall that it was authorized by the campaign.

Schurick declined to comment on the verdict.

His attorney, A. Dwight Pettit, called himself “disappointed” and vowed to appeal the verdict on First Amendment grounds that the call was protected, political speech. “The attempt for the state to regulate political speech is unconstitutional,” he said.

Schurick and his defense team had portrayed the robocall as a mistake, and used prominent politicians from both parties to vouch for his character.

“We made a faux pas,” defense attorney A. Dwight Pettit said in his closing statement Monday. “That’s not criminal. That’s evidence of somebody who made a political misjudgment, a political faux pas, a political mistake.”

Troy-- Tuesday afternoon the Rensselaer County Courthouse was busy as four people sat before a judge for their alleged role in voter fraud.
City Council President Clement Campana, Councilman John Brown and Democratic Party figures Anthony Renna and Anthony DiFiglio are tied to a grand jury investigation into forged absentee ballots in the 2009 Working Families Party primary.
Brown pleaded guilty to possession of a forged instrument. He's looking at six months in county jail as part of his plea deal. Renna pleaded guilty to forging absentee ballots which is a felony. He's looking at an undetermined amount of community service.
DiFiglio pleaded guilty to filing a false business instrument which is also a felony. He's looking at a sentence that does not include jail time or probation.
The only person to not enter a guilty plea at the courthouse Tuesday was Campana.

The evidence that the respublican party has particiupaed in disenfranchising voters right from their top for decades is overwheming.

He used to deride me about voting machines being unreliable right up until they were deemed unreliable.

Then he forgot I ever said it.

He used to deride me about white Phospherous in Fallugia right up until Bush admitted we used it there, then he forogt about it.

On and on it goes but he NEVER admitts when he was proven wrong.

Its a right wing diesease
