The Most Epic Email Ever

And BTW - as bad as they were, the 80s were still better for fashion than the 70s. And even the worst music from the 80s was better than Disco. Poor little white kids with their parents getting them a 'fro and sending them to school... Pick in hand.

Pinholes in satin shirts, making noise when you walk either because your bell bottoms were brushing or your corduroys were "swishing"...

Gah... I'm glad I wasn't a teen in the 70s.

LOL Darla no!

I thought they looked good! You don't even want to know the stuff I wore. I have pictures of myself from New Year's Eve 1989, big hair, GOLD LAME DRESS...I can't even go on. I would die if anyone ever saw it. But here is the best part - I was on television all that weekend on channel 12 news because they were at the Savoy and they interviewed me and for some reason played that every 30 minutes all New Year's day. Thank God that videotape has never surfaced. That's all I can say.

I know I have made fun of some of the 80s fashions, but for truly horrible you need to go back to the early and mid 70s. The leisure suit is a prime example. I also had a pair of bell bottoms that were the coolest ever in 72 or 73. Flowered print that makes my stomach turn now. The insult was when I saw a couch covered in the same material about 10 years later. Even worse was that it was in an old lady's house.

Tire tread sandals, corduroy bell bottoms, velour shirts, those golf style shirts with zippers instead of buttons, balloon sleeved poet shirts, tie-dye everything, and the WIDE belts. In retrospect it is embarrassing.

It was a bad time for fashion. I didn't even mention Disco. Ugh! Shirts unbuttoned to the navel with 12 gold chains. Platform two-tone shoes! Oh jeez I had a pair that would make you cringe.

That's debatable. Oh granted the leasure suit Larry fashions of the 70's sucked but the music wasn't all Disco. Sure...Disco sucked but the 80's were a horrible dead era of music. Can you think of one Rock Band from the 80's who's still around? Lot's of 70's and 90's bands but the 80's was dead.

A lot of great rock bands came out of the 70's.

The Allman Brothers. The Doobie Brothers. Aerosmith. AC/DC, Bad Company, Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath, BTO, Blue Oyster Cult, Blondie, The Cars, Bob Seagar and the Silver Bullet Band, Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band, Uncle Ted, Journey, REO Speedwagon, RUSH, UFO, ZZ Top, The Outlaws, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Queen, The Ramones, Supertramp, Meatloaf, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, The Marshall Tucker Band, Kiss, The Eagles, Jimmy Buffet, Joe Cocker, Joe Walsh, Heart, Foghat, George Clinton, The Commodores, Grand Funk Rail Road, Frank Zappa, Van Halen......and let us not forget about the immortal Mott The Hoople!!

But who came out of the 80's?
Prince? Madonna? Motley Crue? Duran Duran? Beastie Boys? Devo? Billy Idol? Guns n Roses? Men at Work? Flock of Seagulls? Give me a freaken break!

About the only group out of the 80's still worth listening to were U2, Tom Petty and Stevie Ray Vaughn.

70's were great for me growing up. Plenty herb with zero cultural stigma attached. My best friends brother was a DJ at a French Quarter disco we would seek in at 16. I stated bartending at 17; I can not imagine more fun. Girls, herb, nose candy and being paid to party. Sure I'd burn the Cocktail wanna bee pictures but it sure was fun!

Hey...a gold lame dress may have looked passe from a fashion stand point but I bet you looked hot! :)

My wife has a gold lame spaghetti strap cocktail dress that she wears to the dance club once in a while when she's feeling kinda trampy....She may not win any fashion awards when she wears it but damn she looks hot!
