Was Newt too hasty?

The "Trump debate" has the potential to be a circus of epic proportions. It might have had some fun/positive value if everyone was doing it - like the youtube debate in '08 - but every other candidate except for Newt & Santorum said no.

So now, we've got just those 2 at the mercy of whatever weird & egocentric questions one of the biggest delusional blowhards of our times can come up with. It could pass without too much notice, or could be a big negative & somewhat embarassing for the one viable candidate who is participating.

I have no doubt that his campaign staff is wishing they could undo it without much fanfair. Should be interesting to see how it plays out....

Newt, what kind of voter would vote for Newt? His is big government Washington to the "T", that sin he can not wash way.
It cracks me up that the tea party movement or independent voters would even remotely consider him as a candidate. It is another example of anyone but Obama even if he is and would be the worst. He would rival GWB.
 
Was watching Morning Joe today and saw this. Out of all of them only these two had committed. Kind of funny. But I did see a quote from Newt that is probably why he is leading so drastically at this point as it made him look "above the fray." It went something like...and this isn't exact: "We're campaigning to be the leader of the free world and we're supposed to be afraid to answer questions from Donald Trump."

All in all, like you said, it may backfire on him but it will be interesting to see how it plays out.

We want to see Newt and Obama debate. That's gonna be a historical event. Newt is gonna turn Obama into melted jello.

I've got my popcorn ready. Trump is such a unique personality - it's hard for me to imagine him moderating a debate. For starters, he's keeping things open for a run as an independent. He's not going to just ask questions like a journalist or regular moderator would - he is going to infuse himself into the conversation, and his own opinions are likely to be a big part of it.

It will probably be great TV, but if I'm a campaign manager, it's keeping me up at night....

I didn't know the rest of them said no. Actually, this has the potential to be such a debacle that it puts Romney back on top. This may be the first one I actually watch. When is it Onceler?

12/27. I agree that the potential downside is huge. It could be nothing, but it could be a pretty embarassing kind of event that becomes a magnet for negative media coverage & somewhat of a laughing stock. A guy like Newt has little to gain, and almost everything to lose.

His running as an Independent is what the Obama camp is praying for. A split conservative ticket would mean a win for Obama.
