NATO helicopters opened fire on two Pakistani military checkpoints near the border with Afghanistan early Saturday, killing 24 soldiers, the Pakistani foreign ministry and military said Saturday in a statement.

Former international cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan, who heads the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, condemned the incident and said it was time for Pakistan to pull out of the U.S.-led "war on terror."

The incident could be the deadliest for Pakistani soldiers involving NATO since a U.S. airstrike in June 2008, which Pakistan said killed 11 of its forces who were cooperating with the U.S.-led war in Afghanistan.

If a war with Pakistan starts the troops in Iraq that were supposed to come home will be reassigned there. I'm sure someone will be able to spin it as a savings while 45,000 US citizens continue to die each year because medical care is too expensive.

Since Obama got Osama there's no reason to have troops in Iraq or Afghanistan, except to pump more profits to the defense industry.

I'm just a simple soul and this international politics lark is far too much for my little brain to handle.

Can anyone out there, in clever land, explain to this simple soul why America pays lots and lots of money to nuclear enabled Pakistan, even though their intelligence services established and continues to fund the Taliban? Why is America working with Pakistan's ISI (like the CIA only more honest) when they failed to notice Osama bin Ladens knocking about in the city where the Pakistani army does their training and that?

Can anyone tell me why basket case Pakistan, with its big stock of nasty bombs and crazy politicians mad as fuck with American drones killing their people, is not a bigger worry than Iran?

Where's Herman Caines when you needs him?

Pakistan is a far bigger threat than Iran to world peace, if a Taliban friendly regime came to power we'd all be up shit creek.

Once the genocide ball gets rolling, it is hard to stop.
If Obama wins, we don't go in.
If a repub wins, Pakistan and Iran are on the list.

War with Pakistan? What the hell, just as long as there is a war somewhere and all Americans can find another reason to hate and be shit scared while american big business gets its hands on more raw materials. Pakistan, Schmakistan, bomb the mfs.

How else can the weapons producers keep the game going? WWII...4 years to conquer the world's most advanced military (Germany) but 10 years in a country with sticks and stones (Afghanistan).

If they don't help the enemy the game will be over. It's like the surges. Big but not too big. When the enemy starts to withdraw too much the surge stops and gives the enemy time to regroup and come back swinging. Every so often a change of game players. Gen. David McKiernan. Gen. David H. Petraeus. US Gen. Sanley McChrystal. The same game but different players and strategies to keep things interesting until another game (theater of war) opens up.

The weapons producers know the public are getting bored with Afghanistan. They're frantically searching for something. And considering the Defence Department is facing drastic cuts due to a stalemate of the Super Committee panic is setting in. It's an absurd situation, really. It's a big world. Surely there must be something/somewhere they can get a decent war off the ground. A Police action? A skirmish? Even an humanitarian mission would do. There's always the opportunity to turn those into a military conflict if they play their cards right and talking about cards the weapons producers want a new deal.

Now, war with Iran or Pakistan would be like pulling the card to complete an inside straight. Considering the weapons producers deal from the bottom of the deck if things start to go "bad" and troops in Iraq and Afghanistan start to come home I think we'll see the weapons producers pull that card. They're intent on keeping the war game going, one way or another.

And that's today's lesson on foreign politics and war. :)

Begging America for help is the only skill the British have possessed in the arena of world events for the past 94 years.

Low & TuTus' USA-bashing is a display of poor manners, since they are guests here.

I would not respect anyone who is stupid enough to invite me. We crashed, mate. Party crashers to a man. Eating your hard won food, drinking your putrid excuse for beer and doing our best, despite their fervent entreaties, not to shag your women.

It's a waste of time engaging the arsehole, his only raison d'être is to wind people up. Bravo is right to say don't feed the troll.
