There are moments when a politician’s character bursts through the spin, sound bites and ideological chanting. Voters have to watch for them, because they can be fleeting.

One came on Saturday night during the Republican debate, when a moderator asked if water boarding is torture.

The answers were quite stunning and so was the silence.
Several candidates said nothing, including Mitt Romney. Only two had the integrity to state the simple truth.

“Water boarding is torture,” said Ron Paul, who doesn’t seem to have a prayer of winning.

Jon Huntsman, who’s not doing much better, said: “We diminish our standing in the world and the values that we project, which include liberty, democracy, human rights and open markets, when we torture.”

sad thing is, many democrats supported this water boarding as well, yet still get plenty of support from liberals like you.

Like who, SmarterThanFew? I'm not a liberal and have never defended torture.

You lose again.

There are no such things as “enhanced interrogation methods.”

That is the creepy euphemism President George W. Bush’s lawyers used when they were trying to redefine torture so that the president could authorize it.

Water boarding has been universally considered torture since the Spanish Inquisition.

It is part of the curriculum at military survival schools where American soldiers are taught how to withstand torture.

It violates chapter and verse of international treaties, American law and the military code. The people who authorized it broke the law.

And they acted immorally for no good reason.

People who actually know about interrogating prisoners, like those who have done it, say torture is ineffective.

you are a liberal. just because you've never said it on here, there's no mistaking that you are.

I lose again.
yes, you do.

and like every other liberal on this board, you can't seem to fucking remember that I object quite vociferously against 'enhanced interrogation techniques', outright calling it torture.

Wrong again. You don't get to define me.

... yes, you do...

No, I do not . You're wrong again. You had to change my quote to conceal the fact that you accused me of supporting a position I have never taken. You are the loser, defeated by the truth. Stop lying.

Again, I'm not a liberal.

Where did I say you support torture? Link up.

Obama had it right on Sunday, when he said water boarding is “contrary to American traditions” and unnecessary.

That prompted a response from Rep. Allen West of Florida that was even nuttier than what Mr. Cain and Ms. Bachmann said. Mr. West stated water boarding is legal, and useful.

And he added: “Furthermore, in the movie ‘G.I. Jane,’ Demi Moore was water boarded.”

Hey, great idea, pretending Demi Moore movies are real life.

How about “A Few Good Men” where she plays a military lawyer who helps uncover extrajudicial punishment, in Guantanamo Bay.
