TX High School Students Made to Recite Mexican National Anthem, Pledge of Allegiance
Wearing red, white and green, students had to memorize the Mexican anthem and pledge and stand up and recite them in individually in front of the class.

That didn’t go over well with sophomore Brenda Brinsdon. The 15-year-old sat down and refused to participate. She also caught it all on video:

And the Governor of Texas wants to be president......NO Fuckin' way.....

does perry even know about this? the timing was bad and i fail to see how this enriches our understanding of another culture. when we study the soviet union, should we recite their pledge and anthem?

Yeah!

How dare those commie teachers demand that our kids learn about another country on this planet!

FUCK THEM...We're AMERICA!

You can take your "other cultures" and shove it!

when we study the soviet union, should we recite their pledge and anthem?

Sure, why not? Can't people differentiate between an academic exercise and a nationalistic one?

When I studied French we learned to sing "La Marseillaise".

OTOH, I haven't pledged to the flag since elementary school.

are you intentionally avoiding the hypocrisy in liberal groups demanding that the US Pledge violates the 1st Amendment, yet thinking students can be forced to memorize the Mexico pledge?

I didn't see where she was forced to memorize the pledge. The article states she was given an alternate assignment.

What is it with righties always making a problem where none exists? Nowhere does it state that the school was replacing the American pledge with the Mexican pledge, just that they learned to say it as part of a course of study.

Let me throw some gasoline on the fire by saying that pledging to a flag isn't compatible with freedom.

Students are "forced" to memorize all kinds of thing in school...are you seriously going to try and claim this is anything other than a class exercise while studying another culture?

so i'm correct in stating that you are intentionally avoiding your own hypocrisy. that's all you had to say.

Being asked to learn something about another country we happen to share a planet with is NOTHING.

Being FORCED to recite a pledge of allegiance every day before beginning school is wrong.

Only if you are forced to pledge is it incompatible with freedom. If you choose to pledge your allegiance it is absolutely compatible with freedom.

Personally, I would rather pledge to the Constitution than some rag. It is the principles of individual liberty that the government has no right to take from you that holds my loyalty, not a colorful tablecloth.

I would not recite a pledge to the flag of some other nation, I take pledges and promises more seriously than that.

What special treatment?

We share a border with them. Like we do Canada.

I know all the words to "Oh Canada"...does that make a traitor?

nice try. name the class that was instructed to pledge allegiance to the canadian flag and recite their anthem.

you're confusing personal choice with school curriculum. there is no need to PLEDGE allegiance to their flag, NONE. you do understand what a pledge means don't you?

Horseshit...I learned the Canadian National Anthem and Oath of Allegiance as part of History in Sister Leona's 4th grade class at St Louis Catholic School.

We studied how it differed from our Pledge of Allegiance and why people take the Pledge/Oath...we also studied how different country's anthems reflect differing values.

Nobody freaked out then because people understood it's important to learn about differing cultures...the only people freaking out about this now are hateful, xenophobic idiots like yourself.

1. private school vs. public school, i would have thought you understood what this thread is about

2. were you made to recite and stand up just as they did in the OP?

3. learning something is different than getting up and reciting allegiance. again, i would have thought you understood this.
