WASHINGTON (AP) — Senate Republicans have voted to kill the $447 billion White House jobs bill despite weeks of barnstorming by President Barack Obama across the country.

Forty-six Republicans joined with two Democrats to delay the plan. The roll call was kept open Tuesday night to allow Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen to vote. But it would have taken 60 votes in the 100-member Senate to keep the legislation alive.

Senate Republicans (and two dumbass Democrats) actually filibustered a motion to proceed on the jobs bill. Basically, they voted against allowing the jobs bill to come up for debate. That's how asinine our Senate is. It's ridiculous. It's not like the economy is in the shitter or anything.

They handed Democrats a pretty strong campaign argument, imo.

so this is all the republicans fault?

I guess it depends on perspective......I give them credit for preventing another worthless stimulus program.....

Totally. I mean, it's not like we need something that increases employment in the near term and decreases the deficit in the long term or anything. And the alternative the Republicans are proposing is what we really need.

That they didn't want to waste more of the taxpayers money like the Dems do with their 'MORE OF THE SAME' bill?

Not exactly. More like, they oppose new jobs, have no new ideas & are not the party of the working man. Stuff like that.

The GOP would be in a pretty precarious position trying to talk about "wasting taxpayer money" after the past decade or so...

The 'jobs bill' does not CREATE NEW JOBS.... 90% of it is going to status quo proposals. Meaning we don't LOSE jobs, but we don't GAIN them either. Your nonsense that well we gained jobs because they would otherwise lose them is moronic at best.

If you currently have 9 out of 10 people working and the Jobs bill results in 9 out of 10 people working... you did not gain a job. you just prevented it from going to 8/10

Thanks for the clarification. So, the GOP supports further job loss. Great platform.

I'm sorry but my boyfriend disagrees, and he is way smarter than you.

give me a break.... this 'Jobs bill' is a farce. The Reps have actually put forth new ideas, it is the Dems that want more of the same.

The GOP was certainly fiscally irresponsible in the early part of the decade. But it was when the Dems took over Congress that the insanity reached unprecedented heights. They absolutely can win pointing to that.
