A man was shot in the back of the head during a robbery attempt at 1023 E. Gordon Avenue in North Spokane.
Police believe two men were trying to rob the home when the shooting happened.
Months ago, Stephen Mitchell noticed some new neighbors moving in across the street. "Normally very quiet, nice school area," Mitchell said about his neighborhood. However, something tipped him off that that day that these weren't your normal renters. "Only the marijuana plants they brought in by hand when they moved in," Mitchell said.
It's those plants, poorly hidden behind large blue tarps that neighbors speculate were the target of two thieves.
Only the thieves didn't expect anyone to be home.
"I was actually in the back of the house, heard three loud pops. Walked to the front and heard two more," Mitchell said. A little while later Mitchell said the home owner came outside. "Said she'd shot someone trying to break into her house," Mitchell said.
