Sure, conservatives want the poor to have access to hope, promise and opportunity...they just don't want to actually HELP the poor with money, food or shelter...you know, things people can actually USE to survive.

Hope won't fill an empty stomach...promise doesn't shelter the homeless and all the opportunity in the world won't help someone who can't afford a place to live.

Where in the constitution does it say govt is responsible for feeding people, housing people, and giving them money if they're broke? Show me. You can't because it's not there. America has always taken care of the disabled. America has always had charities run mostly by conservative Christians who still run shelters, give meals away, and offer shelter for the homeless. Liberals don't do that, conservatived Christians do.

The Preamble makes clear the purpose of the Constitution.

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

Insure domestic tranquility. How much domestic tranquility can one expect when portions of the population are going homeless and hungry while other people are taking 100 times the resources of the average person? (If the average person earning $50,000 yr. is capable of owning a car and feeding their family and someone earns 5 million a year they are possessing 100 times the average person. What would be the reaction if an individual had a warehouse full of corn and potatoes and frozen and preserved meats while others were going hungry?

Promote the general Welfare. Promote. An active verb. The general welfare of a country is based on the general welfare of its citizens. Whether it’s hunger or homelessness or illness each of those affect the general welfare of the citizens/country and are to be dealt with.

Labor has had to fight for every penny it earns from your 'benevolent corporations' since the industrial revolution. The same charities and religious institutions were around in the 1920's when people worked all their lives and died of starvation in their old age.
