Should the Post Office shut down?

Aren't you the one that consistently bitches about the unions just 'getting what the market will bare'???

This is the postmasters point.... the market no longer will bare as many workers as he is FORCED to keep. He needs the ability to run it like a business.

Also.... he didn't say it was the fault of the 'workers'.... he said it is the fault of the PUBLIC SECTOR UNIONS.... the UNION... not the workers within the union.

The postal system should be converted to start with into a format where business mail is Monday-Friday and residential mail goes to Tuesday, Thursday and Sat (at most). Residents should have the ability to opt out of junk mail. If this means a reduction in revenue for the USPS, then residential mail can be cut to one or two days a week and business down to three or four. With electronic transactions, scanning, better faxing, electronic signatures etc... there is no need to continue on the antiquated postal system. The USPS has served us well, but it needs to be brought into the 20th century..... then we can work on bringing it to the 21st.

And UPS should be given the right to put shit in post office boxes. God do I hate the fact that they only deliver in the middle of the day, when no one is home. It's one of the things I liked about having a post office box at MSU, it forces people to deliver through the post office, and you can simply pick up the delivery at your leisure.

They could ban unsolicited mail, but postal workers have lobbied heavily against it. I mean, I feel sorry for those who will lose their jobs once the 60% or so of mail that consists of junk is banned, sure, but this is the broken window fallacy. We shouldn't break windows on purpose to keep more glaziers employed. This is simply something that should've been done long ago.

Why do you hate freedom of speech and businesses?

I really think that shutting down saturday delivery is only something that's able to effectively save money because the post office is a monopoly.

If the Postal Service could charge the same rate for letters that private carriers do would they still be a monopoly?

There may be some people who need it on Saturday's but he brings up a good point that has been much discussed which is not delivering on that day.

I've been trying to think of a situation wherein someone would NEED mail delivered on Saturday because Friday is too soon and Monday is too far away...still can't come up with one...maybe you can.

so because you can't think of a reason, then that must mean no one needs mail on saturday.

I guess you couldn't think of a reason either, otherwise you'd be boasting and taunting and regaling everyone with tales of your victory by now...

Keep up the good work...LOL

there are many reasons, capt said he needs mail on saturday, are you calling him a liar? like i said, just because you can't think of any reasons, doesn't mean they don't exist. you're just being dumb because of your irrational hatred for me.

Gee, really?

"MANY" reasons?

If that is so, one wonders why it's been TWO posts now where you've resorted to the same old standard Yurt taunts, but for some reason you still cannot come up with a reason why one would NEED mail delivered on Saturday.

I also note Billy didn't give a REASON.

I'm all ears waiting to hear why he's so important that he's just gotta have mail on Saturdays.

business for starters, and that encompasses many reasons. it truly boggles my mind that you believe just because YOU can't think of any reasons that no reasons exist. pure narcissism.

What SPECIFIC crises or problems will mail delivery on Saturday resolve, that the mail on Friday or Monday won't?

Vague allegations aren't reasons, despite the fact your mind is boggled. (Doesn't take much to accomplish that)

I didn't say no reasons exist, just that I can't think of any. I keep waiting for you to come up with even one...so far you've had THREE POSTS now, and the best you could offer is a vague generality with no specifics.

Out of curiousity where did he state or where was it implied that trouble with postal service started on Obama's watch?

I think it's assumed by now that Dweebway only blames problems on Obama, and that whenever he posts, it is to take shots at the same.

you're hopeless. i gave you a HUGE reason and you're still acting like a baby. goods need to be moved and delivered on saturday. most people don't shut down their business on saturday. sheesh zappa, i really can't believe you're being such a baby about this. maybe some people need their skis delivered on saturday. maybe something is due monday morning at 8am and you need it delivered saturday to ensure it is there at 8am.

this isn't rocket science, open your mind and surely you can come up with reasons. you're just stubborn and now will dig your heals in because you can't admit you're wrong.

The Post Office does need to be revamped, but it means letting people go, just what this country needs, more unemployed, maybe they will just do us a favor and die, union scum!

So your telling me that if someone ordered some "skis" and needed them on Saturday, that he couldn't plan ahead far enough to have them delivered on Friday?

So if someone needed something by 8 AM Monday, he couldn't plan far enough ahead to have the item shipped to him by Friday?

See, you've offered reasons why someone might WANT Saturday delivery, I'm looking for reasons why they NEED Saturday delivery.

you're being dumb right now. the point is they did not plan and thus NEED the equipment or goods on saturday. further, some things happen last minute or are done last minute, thus, saturday mail is needed. you're being a petulant jackass. carry on.

Word, brother Watermark!! This problem drives me fucking mad!!! My last apartment wouldn't let FedEx/UPS drop off stuff at the office. Thankfully my current one does, so its less of a problem.
