Grover Norquist's pledge means the GOP won't approve any disaster relief unless they get spending cuts, and they reserve the right to pick what gets cut.

Can the language of the Pledge be altered to allow exceptions?

No. There are no exceptions to the Pledge. Tax-and-spend politicians often use “emergencies” to justify increasing taxes. In the unfortunate event of a real crisis or natural disaster, the legislator should propose spending cuts in other areas to finance the emergency response.

Don't like it? Tough shit.

Rebuild your own community, then.

It's not as if you paid taxes so the government would help you if something really bad happens.

What are you, a fucking Socialist?

Huffington Post reports that “Cantor spokesman Brad Dayspring on Friday declined to say where Republicans would look to make cuts to pay for a potential storm aid package.”

Speaker John Boehner’s spokesperson “ducked the question altogether when asked if Boehner agreed with Cantor’s call for offsets for emergency aid.”

Boehner and Cantor’s position is “a break from a bipartisan tradition” of immediately appropriating funds to help those in need following a natural disaster.

I remember when I was young, my baby sister and I were with my Mom at the department store, and my sister had fallen in love with a pretty dress hanging in the store window.. Mom told her, I'm sorry honey, but I can't afford that dress.. My sister looked at her with this blank clueless stare, and said... but Mommy, you can just write one of those check thingys! I mention this story because it reminds me of how pinheads are... grown pinheads, who should know better. If you are broke and out of money, it means you are BROKE and OUT OF MONEY... not that you can continue to write checks and spend! It's something pinheads just don't seem to comprehend in their ignorant little heads.

Whenever one of you fuckwits comes running with your hand out, looking for government to save you from disaster, you should be told to go down the street and enjoy the Maplethorpe Exhibit, where you can see a cross submerged in urine... that's where your money went! We could have saved it for an emergency like this, but you thought it was a better idea to spend the money on "art" at the time, so since you were in power, that's what we did. Now, we have no extra money for emergencies... so, go enjoy the "art" and shut the fuck up!

In 1901, the city of Galveston, TX was wiped off the face of the map by a huge hurricane, hundreds of people died, thousands were left homeless.... do you know how much federal government emergency funding was given to Galveston? NONE! Not a PENNY! Those people rebuilt Galveston on their own, without any help from the federal government, and without any federal funding. Now, go look at a map... Galveston is still there! Somehow, they managed to survive and rebuild, without any government help. How did they do that? Talk to a pinhead today, and they don't think this is even possible.

I see the Tea-rorists are outraged that their idiocy and callousness has been exposed again.

Dixtard hopes - as usual - that everyone else is as ignorant as Blabo, and won't know that he lied.

Maybe more capital letters and exclamation points will help idiots like Blabo believe your lies, Dix-tard.

He likes calling the people he hates and fears "pinheads", too, so maybe you should use that in every sentence.

What's truly hilarious is that Dixtard and his willing tool Blabo don't even know what they blindly support.

The fact is that the Norquist pledge prevents signatories at the state level from allocating disaster funds, too.

Especially retarded is the myth that America is broke, which Dixtard and Blabo yelp out like trained seals.

America is not broke. The Treasury is broke, because Bush cut taxes for the rich and then spent trillions while ruining the economy through lax regulation of banks and Wall Street.

All that money that should have been used to balance our budget (which Clinton did) is in the pockets of the Kochs and their ilk, who want to keep it there.

Where'd ol Dix go?

Anyone think he's off digging through RightWing sites trying to find something to back his stupid Galveston comments?

Not to be pedantic but the cross in urine was Serrrano, not Mapplethorpe.

Progressives want to spend money on the arts, conservatives on wars. What is more offensive a cross in urine or dead children?

AND THAT WAS HORRIBLE

Thanks for pointing out how much we've advanced in the past hundred years.

1. Comparisons of personal and government finances are meaningless.
2. Children probably don't know how checks work.
3. We're not broke. We will not be broke until markets refuse to buy our bonds, and they're nowhere near that point.

Whenever one of you fuckwits comes running with your hand out, looking for government to save you from disaster,

Dixie's word on disaster victims: fuckwits

Come down to New Orleans and tell them that. You need to have your head cleaned out with lead anyway.

you should be told to go down the street and enjoy the Maplethorpe Exhibit, where you can see a cross submerged in urine... that's where your money went!

The federal government spends an insignificant part of it's money on the endowment for the arts. 80% of public money went to SS, Medicaid/Medicare, and the military. Almost none of it went to the NEA. And Piss Christ is from 1987. It's ancient news. The NEA had much better funding back then (thanks to Reagan, who supported the agency) and probably looser regulations as well.

We could have saved it for an emergency like this,

Yes, a small NEA award from 1987 totally could've been kept and used to pay for this entire disaster. You have an excellent grasp of finance, Dix. If I hadn't of bought that soda the other day, I could own a mansion right now.

but you thought it was a better idea to spend the money on "art" at the time, so since you were in power, that's what we did. Now, we have no extra money for emergencies... so, go enjoy the "art" and shut the fuck up!

1. We don't spend that much money on art. Not spending money on art would put us nowhere close to being able to fund this. All money ever spent on art by the federal government together probably couldn't fund most disasters.
2. Just like any other emergency in the last hundred years, we're going to pay for it by buying bonds. Saying we're incapable of doing this is idiotic and not intellectually dishonest. Attempting to avoid proposing cuts for the popular programs that make up almost all of the federal budget, but pretending like you would cut government anyway by talking about small insignificant programs you have ideological problems with, is idiotic. Framing the argument in a way that implies that these small insigifgant programs are where all of taxes go, as if the thousands of times larger SS program didn't exist, is simply laughable and pathetic. You're not even trying.

Don't forget that the imaginary multimillionaire lied when he said Galveston recovered with absolutely no government aid.
