64% can't cover $1,000 emergency

The question is...do we want a country where 3% of the people are billionaires or millionaires, and the rest make the equivalent of $50K a year?

Because that's kind of where it's headed...

As long as we level the playing field... yes... I want those like Oprah, Gates, Dell, Walton etc... to enjoy the success they brought themselves. That said, fuck Zuckerberg, that guy is a douche bag... take everything he has.

Ways to level the playing field:

1) ALL sources of income taxed at the same rate.... the bulk of the wealthy get their income predominantly from dividend income and long term capital gains... these sources should be taxed at the same rate as ST gains and earned income. All muni income becomes taxable and the cities/states can simply pay the same rate as other taxable entities. If they want to offer State income tax exemption... fine... that is up to the states, but no way should it be federal exempt.

2) All loopholes/deductions/subsidies eliminated... they predominantly favor the wealthy

3) Corporate income tax eliminated.... it is a highly regressive hidden tax on consumers

If those comments were out of character, I'd give you a pass...?????...?????...?????...nope...I stick by them. You are an ignorant right wing turd, you have proven that beyond any shadow of a doubt.

One of us certainly is showing the board what an ignorant piece of shit he is....

lefties don't want to talk about the $50,000 guy who becomes a millionaire. We are not stuck with our current circumstance. It's a choice, many don't want to be rich and 50K is cool.

ROFLMAO.... you are such an ignorant hack....

Billy LIVES in Detroit. I was responding to BILLY. It was a fucking joke you ignorant twit.

Bfgrn is a Yankees fan. I'm picturing him running around Yankee Stadium telling Yankee fans not to boo or speak bad of Boston and the Red Sox and if they yell at Big Popi there are hints of racism behind it.

Which do you hate more.....right wing turds or muslim terrorists?

Wow dude, he was making a joke about Michigan because Billy lives there and we often rip on Michigan. Or is ripping on Michigan more right-wing scum?

exactly... ripping on Michigan is only slightly less fun than ripping on Ohio, which in turn is only slightly less fun that ripping on dumbass USC grads....

NOTE TO BFGRN.... before you start listing the demographics of USC alum.... Cawacko WENT there... I am MOCKING him for it. So get your panties out of bunch and maybe... just maybe.... your mangina will stop whining.

If he is seriously a Yankees fan.... that would explain oh so much about him. Fucking douche bags... every single one of them.

I never made 50k in my life. I think I made 40 a few times. These idiots live in an alternative universe.

Why don't you lefties run your own lives and let Americans take care of themselves. We can get along very well without you worrying about something you really should have no control over. Do you think the American people can't educate themselves and make it through life without lefty dweebs indoctrinated with Marxist BS telling us how to live?

Speaking of Red Sox, they are in Seattle playing the Mariners and it's TV here this weekend. I went to a game last year and saw Ichiro rob big Popi of a home run. If you blinked you missed it.

There is some truth to that. But there is definitely inequity in the wage scale; we have really taken it to extremes, and middle class wages should not stagnate at they have for many years.

Still, if you think about it politically, what we're going to end up with is a relatively small group of people having a ridiculous amount of influence in the process...

Thanks... as I stated, it progresses as the boomers got older. Yes, there was some in the 50's and early 60's, but it was miniscule compared to how it ramped up in the late 60's and beyond.

The increases from the 60s to the 80s are the miniscule compared to the increases from the 80s and beyond, but whatever. The real problem is the decline in the savings rate from 1980 onward coupled with the explosion in debt.

Ok.... do tell me more about the 'range' you wish to discuss... it would be helpful if you provide data links. Thanks.

I'm asking you what you think middle class is here and elsewhere. I'm not picking a range.

Just because we have the land to build bigger homes, doesn't mean we need to be living in homes that size. As other countries show, we don't NEED to do it. Thus we do it for luxury purposes. The larger the homes we build, the more it consumes of construction materials etc... which drives up the costs of such materials. I am all for doing so if we are capable of it. The point is, we live beyond what we need to, BECAUSE WE CAN.

I agree, vehicles was a poor example... that is better used to compare the US today vs. the 1970's (or any other period) in the US.

health care.... everyone in this country has access to it. Thanks.

Food security... we are second to none here. We produce far more than we need. It is available to all. On a relative basis, I would be curious who you may think is better.

Income security... Let me guess, you are going to show me stats on how many UNION members each country has. Well, lets start with Greece. Tell me how secure they feel right now. (if I am wrong in the assumption, I apologize up front)

I'm not going to bother with this discussion if you just want to be an ass. As it stands, the one actual comparative study I am aware of is linked below and you can view it at your leisure. Of particular relevance if you don't have a ton of time is Table 3:

Actually, I do. Unlike lots of folks here, it's not all partisan w/ me. I don't like the idea of a group of rich people basically deciding our elections, regardless of side.
