wow....

Another article written from a different perspective on the same issue....

In addition to providing free coverage for a full range of FDA-approved contraceptives by January 2013, the department said preventive health care to be covered by insurers without additional costs to patients must include: an annual preventive care visit; screening for cervical cancer, the human papillomavirus and gestational diabetes; counseling that covers sexually transmitted infections; counseling and screening for HIV and domestic violence; and support, counseling and equipment to promote breast feeding.

I support preventative care measures, but it is ridiculous to not have any sort of co-pay. If they have insurance, they can afford a friggin co-pay. Leave the 'free' services to those that don't have insurance.

Obama's 2012 election mantra? From "hope and change" to "free fuckin"?

I could write a spoof for him using the "Free Falling" song... He'd have to pay me though, nothing like an unconscionable obscene profit to go with a political campaign.

so now health insurers have to buy condoms and the pill for people? They must also provide free 'family planning'?

Yeah... Obamacare is really going to help lower health costs.

No, insurers have to cover these things for without requiring a co-pays. Basically, male policy holders have to shoulder some of the costs of these services through premiums rather than having women shoulder the burden through co-pays.

This should be good.... why is it that the male should have to cover things like:

screening for cervical cancer, the human papillomavirus and gestational diabetes; counseling that covers sexually transmitted infections; counseling and screening for HIV and domestic violence; and support, counseling and equipment to promote breast feeding.

With the exception of domestic violence counseling.... I don't see anything on that list that men should be required to pay for as part of their policy.

For the same reason that women cover prostate cancer screenings through their premiums.

Rubbish. I would have to copay. Thus removing the copay for "this" but not for, say, my prostate medication they are not applying it equally. Shouldn't I get free vasectomies (well I would really only need one, but you know what I mean)? No copay? What if the male pill comes out soon, do I get it for "free" because women should pay for part of that cost or do I have to copay that too?

They aren't removing the copays for breast cancer treatment, or HPV treatment, or ovarian cancer treatment, just like you have to pay for your prostate medication. They are saying that preventive care, like screening for HPV, HIV (as well as for prostate cancer for men over 50) has to be provided without co-pay. So yes, it is the same.

And they aren't giving away free tubal ligation just like they aren't giving away free vasectomies. If the FDA approves a male pill, it will have to be provided without co-pay.

exactly.... the reason's name.... STUPIDITY.

This is why policies should be done on the individual basis and not with a cookie cutter one size fits all approach. It is fucking retarded.

Yes, how stupid for insurance premiums to cover preventive care.

You're thinking on health care policy suffers from severe myopia coupled with extreme narcissism.

M'eh, works for me. I am not going to be all "up in arms"... This isn't going to make or break the debate. I do think that people can afford a copayment on condoms and BC pills though and would prefer to continue exactly where we have been.
