Rough Libertarian Critique of Conservatives

Bf, are you going to give me an example of social conservatism in the Tea Party or not?

it's not going to matter what examples they give. bfgrn, dune, and taichi (among others) will not let facts get in the way of their liberally conceived notions that the TEA party is corrupt, co-opted, hijacked, irrelevant, hated, and any other derogatory name they want to use to dissuade them that what they perceive from their liberal masters is nothing but 100% gospel truth.

because gillespie is smart enough to know that most people reading his article would not be able to understand the very subtle difference between the two. it makes better sense to less educated people to use 'supposedly conservative' instead of 'supposedly republican'. I would think you'd been able to make that distinction.
Wow you're stretching like a rubber band now. If he meant to critique republicans, then why use the word "conservative" at all? At best he is trying to mislead, create a straw argument, or at the worst, lie.

the only thing that's being stretched here is your perception of the intelligence of a majority of americans with regards to the terms democrat/liberal and republican/conservative. If you wish to consider that people are smarter than they appear to be, that is wholly your problem and not mine nor gillespies.

You are trying your best to avoid the topic.

The point of the article is to point out that the social conservatives are trying to keep the fiscal conservatives on board by telling them that they must be both fiscally conservative and socially conservative in order to be conservative. It is a bit of propaganda you yourself have posted here.

SM, how would you have stated the issue? The examples are valid, whether you want to continue to claim differently or not. But please write your own version and show us.

So what do you think of the rest of the author's comments?

I asked for an example and you ask me a question about xenophobia.

You are the one who made the claim about the Tea Party. Do you have an example or not?

Of course I do...

The tea party kicked off their first national tea party convention in Nashville with racist, xenophobic comments by former Colorado congressman Tom Tancredo, met by wildly CHEERING turds.

The much anticipated Tea Party National Convention kicked off yesterday in Nashville, Tennessee. Judson Phillips, took to the stage to introduce former Colorado congressman Tom Tancredo to the stage to a standing ovation. Tancredo stood smiling at the crowd and waving before starting off his speech with “I’m Tom Tancredo and I drive a Harley!” He quickly moved on from the topic of motorcycles, however, to get to his main target: immigrants.

He stated that many of the people who voted Obama into office “can’t even spell the word vote or even speak English,” which brought loud applause from the crowd. He said that it was a good thing that McCain didn’t win the election otherwise we would be see him and Rep. Gutierrez receive awards from NCLR for introducing and implementing an amnesty bill. He went on to talk about the “cult of multiculturalism” which is “aided by leftists.”

He issued a warning to the crowd that “our culture is at stake” and that our culture “is based on Judeo-Christian values whether people like it or not!” Near the end of his speech Tancredo announced to the crowd that he was going to be working with Roy Beck, executive director of NumbersUSA (an anti-immigrant group with strong ties to white nationalists) at their breakout session on Friday. He encouraged people to attend the session and thanked Roy Beck and NumbersUSA for all their good work.

To make certain that the event got off to the right start, Tancredo proceeded to give the most racist speech since David Duke, the Ku Klux Klan leader turned politician, amazed us with his vile dribble.

Ripping into Obama, Tancredo announced that the president had won his office because “we do not have a civics, literacy test before people can vote in this country.”

This was no accidental choice of words. Back in the days of the Jim Crow south, literacy tests were used to take away the right to vote from the majority of African Americans. It was a practice successfully employed to deny these rights from the late nineteenth century right on through to the 1960’s when it was mercifully ended by The Voting Rights Act of 1965, and one that continues to be one of the darkest stains on our national history.

But Tancredo was just getting warmed up.

People who could not spell the word vote or say it in English put a committed socialist ideologue in the White House — name is Barack Hussein Obama.”

But he wasn’t finished yet. He still had to point out that America’s problems are the result of the nation’s “cult of multiculturalism.” Tancredo basically did everything he could to make his racist point short of handing out copies of “Mein Kampf” and carrying a sign reading, “If you ain’t white, you ain’t right.”

Tancredo made a speech and is an asshole. However, I believe I asked about the Tea Party's core platform. This is not that.

However, Tancredo received his best applause for his comments about illegal immigration. Which is part of the Tea Party's core beliefs. That is neither social conservatism nor xenophobia.

Racism, fear of a “cult of multiculturalism”, warning to the crowd that “our culture is at stake” and calling for new Jim Crow laws is not social conservative? THEN WHAT IS????????

I'm sorry when a tea party audience goes bonkers for David Duke like bs they are bringing it on themselves.
You can be fiscally conservative without being a bigot at the same time.

Racism, fear of a “cult of multiculturalism”, warning to the crowd that “our culture is at stake” and calling for new Jim Crow laws is not social conservative? THEN WHAT IS????????

First of all, is Tancredo the Tea Party?

Second of all, is it multiculturism or forced multiculturism that he was ranting against?

Here are the core beliefs of the Tea Party:

"NON-NEGOTIABLE CORE BELIEFS OF THE TEA PARTY
1. Illegal Aliens Are Here Illegally.
2. Pro-Domestic Employment Is Indispensable.
3. Stronger Military Is Essential.
4. Special Interests Eliminated.
5. Gun Ownership Is Sacred.
6. Government Must Be Downsized.
7. National Budget Must Be Balanced.
8. Deficit Spending Will End.
9. Bail-Out And Stimulus Plans Are Illegal.
10. Reduce Personal Income Taxes A Must.
11. Reduce Business Income Taxes Are Mandatory.
12. Political Offices Available To Average Citizens.
13. Intrusive Government Stopped.
14. English As Core Language Is Required.
15. Traditional Family Values Are Encouraged."

Now, you can continue to claim that freaks like Tancredo are saying what the Tea Party is, but that is no more accurate than saying Al Sharpeton is the voice of the Democratic party.

Now what say we get back to the OP topic?

You asked for an example of social conservatism from the tea party. You GOT one.

Now, were these NON-NEGOTIABLE CORE BELIEFS written in the dirt on some school playground, because the level of intelligence indicates 2nd or 3rd grade intelligence.

Do you EVER consider ANY social implications to some of this ignorance? Like #7 and #8? It is REAL death panels for Americans, especially the elderly, disabled and poor children.

I suggest your 'tearrorist' party also get a new symbol...

Most of those, requirements, seem to be self contradicting, a large military with less taxes? Pro domestic employment with less taxes? political offices available to average citizens but core values encouraged? The rest seem to be more or less along the lines of "Get them gar damn feds off my lawn afore I shoots'em with my shotgun ere" What exactly qualifies as "intrusive government?" How does one define a "Special Interest"? Is it a senator voting against a bill to change mining law because he knows his state will suffer for it? Seems like a special interest he's got there. somebody from Hawaii wouldn't care about it. Oh and gun ownership is sacred we'd just like it to be a little less sacred for the people who wander into a gun store put down a stack of cash and wander out five minutes later with enough weaponry to invade north korea.

Interesting......

Which of these NON-NEGOTIABLE CORE BELIEFS do you have problems with ?
And do you actually know what some of the ambiguous ones actually mean ?

WB never said he had a problem with them (he may but he never said that). He posted it to show Bfgrn what the Tea Party stands for.

I'm shocked to see Solitary resort to using the definitions established by a group itself as the definition for said group.
