No, since a check is paper and is a PIA to cash in nearly all stores. Poor folk tend to have shitty credit and don't qualify for most credit cards, so they use debit cards.

Why would you? I get cash back at the end of the year with credit cards. I can redeem points for cash, apply it to my bill, or last year I turned it into a pile of gift cards for about 1/2 my Christmas presents.
