It's a game of brinkmanship and willy waving, both Standard and Poors and Moodys are indicating that they may downgrade the US from triple A status. I can't imagine that the republican's behaviour is helping matters.

Lower spending is a religious agenda? I'd agree with you if they were holding out for bans on gay marriage or something stupid, but not for stopping the failed spending policy of a man who has more than doubled Bush's overspending in one-fourth the time.

Scare mongering and demonization are the only things they have left as their Keynesian schemes failed miserably. Socialism has failed (as was inevitable, and the only one who don't know it are the brain dead socialists. The EU is learning the bitter lessons of the former Soviet Union. Countries in Europe are facing the same economic demons we are facing in the U.S.: we are out of fake money, and faking more is no longer going to work.
