Burdensome government regulation strangles American business, say the Republicans.

Eliminate restraints on the "free market" (which isn't free, since it gets tax incentives, subsidies, and other government perks) and employment will soar, says the GOP.

How's that work?

Is there an example of an industry that produced more and better-paying jobs after government deregulation?

I seem to recall a housing bubble, and a subprime lending scandal.

Were they the result of deregulation?

Then the taxpayer had to bail out the banks and Wall Street.

How many jobs did deregulation create?

Micro brewing. Restrictions were lifted in 79. Today the largest American brewer is the Boston Brewing company (Sam Adams). Proven.

So Jimmy Carter is your poster child for job creation?

Awesome.

Any more examples?

Disproven?

Many homebrewing related articles and books mistakenly claim that, in 1979, President Jimmy Carter signed into law a bill explicitly allowing home beers and winemaking, which was at the time illegal as a holdover from the prohibition of alcoholic beverages (repealed in 1933).

In fact, the U.S. Congress passed an Act in 1978 exempting a certain amount of beer brewed for personal or family use from taxation.

The change also exempted home brewers from posting a "penal bond" (which is currently $1000.00) which had the prohibitive effect of economically preventing brewers of small quantities from pursuing their hobby.

President Carter signed the Act, which addressed other issues as well…

So Billy Barstool's grand example of a deregulated industry spawning jobs turned out to be bogus?

Sam Adams

The funny thing about this is Number one it's true, Number 2 the right wing republican church nazis fought tooth and nail against it, Number 3 I guess this is an advocation of abolishing government regulation on drugs, tobaco, porn, and prostitution. Does anyone doubt that this would also generate some jobs? They also want to 'regulate' abortion which would kill alot of jobs.:whoa:

I think it is safe to say that corporations want to continue the massive tax incentives they get but they want no oversight regulation. Eight years of Bush/Chaney deregulation brought us the financial mess we are in now.

I almost forgot that massive deregulation known as Sarbenes/Oxley. You are not a good troll.

Can you tell me who was President when Glass-Steagall was repealed?

Who prevented the regulations over Fannie/Freddie during Bush's terms?

Can you tell me how you expect more debt to solve a debt crisis?

Proven.

Try again....the largest (and oldest) brewery in the country is Yuengling Brewing, Pottsville, Pa.

Why bother with the pinhead......the question is a stupid one to begin with......

Deregulation in banking wasn't intended to 'create jobs'...it was to boost the housing market and home ownership......it did that big time......

We can deregulate the Conastoga wagon industry and it won't create one job....

and we can deregulate the oil industry and it could create millions of jobs......

Pinheads are too stupid to recognize what they don't know......and what they do know is fantasy.....

Philosophically the right wings argument about regulations and the role of government is that to them things are more important them people.

Regulations are not, nor have ever been intended to create jobs or discourage them. They are intended to protect people.

What deregulation by Bush/Cheney are you referring to?

Because it was Clinton that repealed Glass Steagall. Not Bush.
