Fmr. GOP Sen. Alan Simpson Calls Republican Refusal To Raise Revenue ‘Absolute Bullshit’

Former GOP Sen. Alan Simpson blasted his intransigent GOP colleagues on the Hill today for failing to reach a deal on the deficit. The blunt-talking co-chairman of President Obama’s bipartisan fiscal reform commission slammed Republicans for kowtowing to Americans for Tax Reform head Grover Norquist (“Republicans can’t be in thrall to him”) and pushed Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner to stand fast on the August 2 deadline.

Surveying the lay of the current fiscal land, Simpson said, “We’re at 15 percent revenue, and historically it’s been closer to 20 percent.”

He added, “We’ve never had a war without a tax, and now we’ve got two. … Absolute bullshit.”

They never have anything substantive to say when the hollowness of their credo is exposed.

Most people who don't care about a thread don't post in it.

Postmodern Prophet, current poster at Just Plain Politics calls Democrats refusal to make significant reductions in federal spending "Absolute Bullshit".....

there, now we're even........

Translation. We Republicans want to have everything our way and if we don't were going to throw a temper tantrum, take our ball and go home...waaaaa!

Democrats have agreed to significant and substantial cuts. Most of those affect services to the middle class. Balls in their court pall and it's quickly getting to shit or get off the pot time.

lol.....right.....because this thread is an example of Republicans throwing temper tantrums.....and Dems haven't agreed to any cuts unless there is an increase in taxes........not going to happen......

What a liar you are. And you even do that poorly, lil' PiMP.

Your GOP heroes ran away from the negotiations because they won't consider allowing any tax loopholes, exclusions, or breaks to expire, not because of cuts.

Negotiators had reached tentative agreement on more than $2 trillion in cuts covering wide swaths of the federal budget, according to an aide familiar with the talks, affecting health programs, annual spending, benefits like farm subsidies and tuition aid, and automatic limits on future spending.

Democrats had pressed to close a wide range of tax breaks, from oil and gas subsidies to breaks that benefit wealthy individuals.

Republicans quit unexpectedly after saying the group had reached an impasse...

I'm curious.....the Dems campaigned in 2008 against Bush's out of control spending.......if we took the 2008 budget and corrected it for inflation experienced in 2009-2011, the proposed budget would be around $3.139 trillion....Obama's proposed 2012 budget is $3.7 trillion (which he claimed was a cut).....does anyone know how much the Dems have agreed to trim from 2012 spending?......

and does anyone here really think the Dems have agreed to reduce spending if there aren't any tax increases?......I would like a show of hands......(someone who doesn't ignore the poster who's name looks like a badly combed crewcut will have to tell me if he raises his hand, as I have him on ignore).........

This is an example of extremist right wingers trying to destroy the middle class by holding the American people hostage.

really?.....and here I thought it was an example of Democrats trying to destroy the middle class, the lower class, and the upper class by holding the American people hostage......

I'm curious, PiMP. Don't you know how to operate a search engine to find out stuff like this, or do you rely on rightwing propaganda blogs for your "points"?

I also noticed that you ran away from your lie in post 12.

Maybe a government shut-down would be a good thing.

Consider the one in Minnesota. 22,000 State workers with no pay check. Closings included the State Zoo, programs for the blind and visually impaired, the State Hot Line dealing with Medicaid and Medicare insurance, State Parks resulting in an Eagle Scout camping trip being interrupted....the list goes on.

Maybe when enough people realize exactly what their tax dollars support at the Federal level they'll stop bitching about contributing a few dollars more or insist those who can contribute dig a little deeper in their pocket.
