WAR PIGS!!!!

????....can you give me an actual instance where a peace activist has stepped up to violence and died to save our country.......at best I expect you might come up with an instance where a peace activist stepped up and died, followed by a soldier who actually saved the country...........apparently some believe others will make the sacrifice for them, yet have no gratitude towards them......

Soldiers don't have much of a choice, do they? The people who go to war are corporate led governments. One man standing before a tank can create a powerful image. Perhaps you would have preferred to see him run down... after all he stood against an army.

Take a moment in silence to remember June 4th.

We have every choice on whether to enlist or not.

did he save China?.....

no and wasn't that the point I was trying to make?....armies of citizens with guns saved America.....not a single citizen, whether armed with a gun or a pacifist without one.....

And the man who stood before the tank in Tien an men square created a movement which even yesterday 4th June 2011, was continued by thousands of Hong Kong Chinese gathering in our Victoria Park for a candlelight vigil and a march on the government offices.
So it saved no one on its own but it made it a little more difficult for the Beijing government to ride roughshod over democracy campaigners.

Has any single citizen with a gun saved America?

And the reason it worked is because China has a vested interest in what the world thinks of it. This has been discussed already. For pacifism to work, it must be against violent people with some sense of honor or must be against someone for whom public opinion matters. That is not the case in many situations. Had that brave protestor from Tianamen Square done the same thing against the armies of Iran, pre-war Iraq, Somalia, Israel, or any one of a dozen or more violent nations, we would be discussing how they got the greasy spot off the pavement.

Right. Where's that Peace Prize winner at this time?

thousands showed up out of a population of millions?......shucks, in our little city we had thousands show up just to buy beer and listen to music last week.....I don't think that made anything difficult for the government, except maybe picking up more trash than usual......

Yeah, that seems to be really making a difference in how China treats Tibet; HUH!!

We have a population of 7 million. An estimated 150,000 turned out to commemorate the event. But, as you well know, that is not really the point of the discussion. You just felt you had to say something.
