I didn't even know one was going on but it looks like a Democrat won in a very conservative district. Local paper (in SF) is saying the race was over Ryan's Medicare proposal. Any of you political junkies follow this race?

yes, it is the 26th congressional district in ny, not nyc, the district has gone repug for decades and today it went dem because the rep candidate supported the ryan medicare proposal
 
Yea, Isn't it funny? The Republicans have managed to lose any political advantage they had over health care reform by supporting Ryans reactionary social engineering. I wonder what the Republican response will be? My guess is that they will try to quietly distance themselves from Ryancare.

Correct, but a Republican in NYS is moderate to liberal and a Democrat in NYS is liberal to socialist. Using this as an indicator of the country as a whole is a grave mistake.

Again, trying to access the mood of the country based on what happens in in NY State is a grave error. As I recall there was another special election held up there several months ago that went the same way.

I don't think it would take Nostradamus to predict that there will be serious political consequences for anyone who supports Ryancare. This is what Newt tried to say and he was shouted down by the right wing of his own party. Oh well, to paraphrase Ceasar "Let the dice fly!". LOL

Don't you think that Republicans should lead on this issue? Ryancare is not leadership. Going backwards in time is not leadership. Ryancare is what we had prior to Medicare and Private insurance companies priced retired seniors out of the market and if Grandma fell down and broke her hip, her family had to pay for the surgery out of pocket. That's why Medicare was created in the first place because of the failure of the market to provide for the needs of our seniors and Ryancare would take us right back to that predicament. That's not leadership that just piss poor public policy.

Obama only plans to cut military spending by a little less growth than inflation. WTF
