Bullshit, old school thinking for old school fellas. Today's SUV & trucks are much more efficient.
$4 is a bumb in the road, $5 may generate some dampening.
$40 to $60,000 SUV's and Cars gasoline is @ 4 is not stopping anyone
Obama and the Eco-terrorist want gas prices high. He will be re-elected and gas prices will go even higher.
Gas is all but $4 gallon now and growth continues at near 3%, don't confuse globalization's affect on middle class incomes and employment with gas prices.
Again, do some research on car's efficiencies. Toyota has sold 1,000,000 prius's which get 50 mpg.
It's $3.50/gal here in Cowtown....glad I ride my bike to work. I put $20 in the tank two weeks ago. I drove up to the grocercy store last night and the gas light just came on.It's 3.79- 3.89 here...glad I drive a Prius
I sure seem to remember liberal's whining uproariously and blaming Bush for high gas in 04... yet nothing against Obama~
granted upper middle and rich are buying those vehicles, but the middle class is not doing the bulk of the spending or supporting the economy either.
I don't know about that but they have done wonders on efficiency for vehicles. My sister works at the Ford engine plant in Lima and she was telling me about the ecoboost V-6 they'll be putting into the Mustang. over 260 ponies and about 32 mpg on the highway or something like that. The'll be putting that in the F-150 too. Don't know what the numbers on gas efficiency are but if Ford & GM can develop light trucks and SUV's that reach 25 - 30 mpg then I wouldn't be surprized to see sales climb back to 10 million units a year. Americans gotta have their big cars and trucks!Bullshit, old school thinking for old school fellas. Today's SUV & trucks are much more efficient.

True. I'm fortunate, they do for me. I live 5 miles from where I work. We have bike trails and sidewalks up the wazoo. Just about anything I need, shopping, entertainment, food, medical, etc is literally in walking distance. I only drove a hair over 3,000 miles last year.$4 wouldn't be a problem if people had reasonable alternatives to driving everywhere that they went, but in most places those reasonable alternatives do not exist.
what's going to happen is Lybia dies out, Oil goes back down to near 90 and gas will be $3 is by summer end.
You guy's are ignoring 2 raises in cafe standars and more to come. $4 gasoline absolutely will not result in negative growth.
I agree with your observation. It's also why I oppose flat tax schemes, though don't get me wrong, you can go to far on the progessive side of life too.Wrong again. The middle class (and lower income) spend the bulk of their earnings on consumption. The wealthy do not. Rising prices in energy, food, clothing hit them far harder than the wealthy. It crushes the economy as demand for other goods and services as the bulk of their spending power goes to necessities and leaves little room for extras. So while consumer staples may do well, the rest of the market implodes.
The above is just nonsense. $4 gas is based on oil being around $135-145/brl. That is well above fair value for oil based on supply and demand.
As I stated, we have already seen the direct result of $148/brl oil. It created a dramatic demand destruction that crippled our economy. 70% of our oil consumption is due to transportation. People cancelled vacations, minimized driving, anything and everything to lower the impact of oil at those prices. $4 is nowhere near sustainable. It wasn't before the financial sector imploded, it most certainly isn't in this weak ass economy.
right, the F150 gets 22 MPH with the eco boost, they will put a 4 cy in the explorer.
Ecoboost is just turbocharging, but it does vastly increase milage.
Bulk of consumer spending comes from the top half, gas prices roll off thier backs like water on a duck.
Oil is about $109 today and the cheap gas at WaWa is $3.70.....109 is a far cry from $148.....

Liberals did and they will for Obama. The magic # is $4.00/gallon. It goes above that and their will be political consequences regardless of who is in office.
