Government to be shut down!

I have detected a ratchiting up of the rhetoric regarding the pending government shut down coming from the Republicans.

It looks to me like they are laying the ground work for a shut down and the PR they are promoting is that its necessary to avoid a catistrophic economic meltdown.

Funny when you look at all indicators trending up....

I hope the American people are not dumb enough to fall for it.

Then were not so dumb when Newt and his boys tried it, lets hope it holds.

They are doing everything they can to try to make the economy bad before the 2012 elections.

In the 90's, the people saw that there was one party that was willing to continue to discuss ways to avoid a shutdown (Democrats) and one party who refused to budge (Republicans).

The very same situation is taking place once again, with one party willing to continue discussions in order to avoid a shutdown (DEMOCRATS), and one party childishly threatening to hold their breath until they get their way (REPUBLICANS).

A government shutdown will hurt me?

Someone please tell me how a government shutdown will hurt me.

I think the dems want a shutdown, and the reps are being forced not to budge by the people who support them.

Ahhhh, I can't wait for the Masters.

I'll be on the golf course tomorrow.

Dreaming of being that filthy rich person that so many blame.

Democrats have come more than half way! Republicans ain't moved an inch!

The Tea party is pushing the Republican party to ruin!

It costs money, you don't want your tax dollars spent foolishly?

People won't be getting pay checks, and all you can think of is yourself? How selfish!

GOOD! I am GLAD they won't be getting pay checks! How long do you suppose we can keep it like that?

I'd say a good 80-85% of government workers don't deserve the paycheck they are getting anyway, so it all works out beautifully.

And Jarhead, you can cling to hopes that this will play out for Republicans the way it did back in the old days, but that was before the TEA Party swept Congress like a tsunami. The dynamic is different, the mindset of Americans is different... but you are stuck in the past, thinking you can pull the same PR bullshit this go around, but I think you got another thing coming buddy, I think this won't be any picnic for Democrats, and the damage to Republicans will be minimal if they stick to their guns. Now, if the R's shut down government and it lingers on for weeks before they eventually cave in to Democrats, it will kill Republicans in 2012. There is absolutely no need in doing this if you intend to fold in the end, and Republicans need to remember that.

What is on the table is a FRACTION of the cuts we need to balance the budget. If Democrats are willing to shut down government over this, imagine what they will do when Paul Ryan introduces his budget plan for next year, with $4 trillion in cuts? We've not even started doing the heavy lifting yet, when it comes to cutting spending, and now is a really pitiful time for Democrats to stonewall, especially since it's your own fault there isn't a budget for 2011. You had majorities in both houses of Congress, you could have passed anything you wanted before the mid-term elections.... your party FAILED to do so, because your Demagogues didn't want to return home to their constituents and answer for the massive deficit.
