Petraeus Says Quran Burning Endangers War Effort .

you should really stay out of this...its above your head

and you really are the asshole here...you claimed i supported yelling fire in a theater...that is so far from the truth...and you can't admit you were wrong and wrong about the law. so now you will just get all pissy and engage in your typical onceler petulant bullshit

it is rolling over and backing down....that said, i would not burn the quran to err on the side caution....now stay out of this, thank you

You support the idea that words have no consequences whatsoever, and that people who arguably are closest to the situation & know the most about what might happen shouldn't share that knowledge & say anything.

That's what you support; you're an idiot. Really.

why are you still posting? do you enjoy making yourself look like a fool? you think burning a quran is the same type of speech as yelling fire in a crowded theater.....you're the idiot onceler....

and once again, you're spouting lies...i never once said words do not have consequences....you're so dishonest you ignore the fact that i said i personally would not burn the quran...but no, when you're wrong and look dumb, you lash out in petulant onceler fashion that is usually just your angry lies....grow up douchebag

you should really click on links and learn what you're talking about BEFORE typing and looking like a fool. petraeus asked him to abandon the plan last year....BEFORE he burned it....he is merely reiterating his request

i never said anyone took away his right....let me repeat this because apparently many of you can't digest a simple concept....petraeus's request has a chilling EFFECT on the speech....let be clear again....petraeus does not want to make it illegal to burn a quran...but the request, followed by comments that people will die as a result of exercising a right, is in fact a chill on that right....even SF concedes he would not burn the quran so as to err on the side of caution....

What are you talking about? This has zero bearing on this topic.

So is the information on this website wrong? What's the difference between burning a flag and a book?

Every state in America except two has laws dealing with the misuse, abuse, and desecration of flags: the American flag, the state flag, and sometimes the Confederate flag. The laws prohibit defiling, defacing, casting contempt upon, and sometimes even satirizing these flags. Most laws specify actions, but some criminalize words. A few include other venerated objects in their protections.
Wyoming is the only state that doesn't say anything about defacing, desecrating, or disparaging the flag. Alaska only bans the registration of trademarks which disparage national symbols. All other states proscribe at least some uses for national and state flags. Below are some key attributes of these laws.

Publicity: It's rarely a crime to deface, burn, or desecrate an American flag if you do so in the privacy of your home. It's only a crime to do it in public or take a flag so altered and display it in public. If the crime is the action, though, why does it have to be public? This suggests that the law exists to protect people's sensibilities rather than flags.

Once again, you're the one who sounds all petulant & whiny, and who is lying. I didn't say it was "like" it; I said it was as dumb as. The only reason I brought up the example is on the level of "words do have consequences," which you seem to be in denial of, but of course you're latching onto it dishonestly to try to distract from the stupidity of your main premise.

It's nice to know you wouldn't personally burn the quaran. What's wrong with Petraus saying what he said about it? He's trying to protect his troops; he's not threatening the pastor, or promising ramifications to the pastor. Nothing about what he said is "chilling." You keep ignoring that.

You're really a braindead individual. The OP was hopelessly stupid, but you're not giving it up...

So is the information on this website wrong?

State laws prohibiting flag burning have twice been struck down in legal challenges.

"Although the U.S. Supreme Court has twice invalidated state flag laws, 47 states still have on the books laws, many modeled after the Uniform Flag Law of 1917, that prohibit the desecration of the flag or its use for advertising and publicity purposes."

http://www.firstamendmentcenter.org/speech/flagburning/topic.aspx?topic=flag_statelaws

Flag burning, book burning, and Qran burning involve different issues, although all 3 could be construed as being protected speech under the 1st Amendment.

Why do you keep trying to derail the discussion with irrelevancies?

Start a new topic if you want to talk about this, this thread is about whether we should blame the pastor for the murders committed using his bonfire as an excuse. If the point was salient to the topic at hand or even an extension of the conversation... but it really isn't. It is interesting, considering that burning flags as a political point is protected speech in the US and every time it has been challenged laws have been struck down, listing a bunch of laws that are no enforceable is worthless to the topic.... You posted it like you were making some sage point, but you're simply deviating from the topic.

i guess you do enjoy making an ass out of yourself....but the lies? really....they're old onceler, just like your constant petulant whiny bullshit comments....

yawn

good lord you're a moron....you should read your links...

care to admit you screwed up?

Read the rest of the page retard, my point was that it is NOT ilegal. We already know you can't legislate against stupidity, or your mother would have never given birth.

This is really as dumb as the "yelling fire in a crowded theater" debate.

According to Yurt, if the guy sitting next to you says he's going to yell it, and you tell him that might not be such a good idea, you are "chilling" his speech, and telling him not to exercise his 1st amendment rights....

^LOL^

such stupidity must be laughed at...

I have great difficulty in understanding why there are laws to protect the US flag, which is a symbol of the state, yet you feel that there is no parallel with religious symbols.

lol...you said it was protected....it is not and the quote is right in the link

my lord you are one stupid liar....now you're dishonestly trying to claim you only meant not illegal, but the reality is you said it was protected....LOL...you are as dumb as onceler
