I know there are examples of such disastors and punishments in the bible. Personally, I believe that these are allegory instead of fact. I also think they were invented by man as control measures for the population.

A "God of Love" would not kill thousands of innocents to punish thousands of guilty people.

i believe even jesus said it was better to lose your life than to lose heaven or maybe it lose the offending member of your body that was sinning. imo, i believe god cares more about our heavenly lives than our lives here. i don't pretend to understand everything god does.

it is an issue that will be unresolved until god comes, if he comes. theologians have debated the issue for centuries. i believe CS lewis once said something like, that suffering happens, is a great weapon use by those who do not believe in god. and he is right, its the age old question of why a god of love would allow innocents to suffer.

Japan has a VERY conservative culture. Ive been to Japan several times for weeks at a time. I really enjoy Japan. The people are VERY socially conservative. I dont knwo about the government and if it is conservative or not.

while i don't completely agree with beck's comments, it is not unusual for christians to believe that bad things happen for a good reason. the bible is full of examples like this and tells us we will be tested by fire or something like that. islam also shares this belief that bad things can happen for a good reason.

comments that claim something happened for a specific reason, such as homosexuality, are ludicrious as it ignores all the other sin taking place. at least beck is not specific, rather merely musing that maybe this is for a good reason. i have no idea if it is or not, it is a tough christian or most other religions issue. its pretty silly for those who don't believe in god and religion to act like this utter delusional. all humans try to understand why something bad happens and we all try to rationalize certain events in our life.

I have no problem with it when its a choice by individuals and not attempted be enforced by the government. IN my private life I am very socially and economically conservative, I just dont belvie in trying to force that upon others using the government.

I dont. I support hands off regarding social policy, let people do what they choose unless it marerialy, negativly and directly afftects others.

(IE, let gay people get married if they choose, but dont force Churches to perform the ceramony or force anyone to get married if they choose not to.)
