Texas group creates white men only scholarship

All that being said, how is it that somebody who is at "least 25% Native American" can get a scholarship for being that, but something equal like this is suddenly racism? Can somebody tell me why they think that and make it make sense?

The biggest discriminator is wealth- There should be no race or ethnic based scholarships...instead only income based. This would eliminate any and all perceptions of inequality... The facts would remain that specific race and ethnic populations would likely be rewarded more scholarships due to their income than whites- but those whites who also fall under the income guidelines would have fair and equal access.

That said, all other scholarships that are strictly based on ability and achievements should remain as such regardless of income; race; or sex.

Blacks got together and created scholarships for black's mainly because they saw how far people in their cultural group were behind everyone else. A whites only scholarship has no really purpose but spite towards a scholarships for minorities. If the scholarship for blacks is wrong, two wrongs don't make a right. If it's right, it's reasons don't apply to a whites only scholarship.

I also think that a blacks only scholarship is a misguided way to correct the situation, but a white's only scholarship really isn't the best answer to this.

One of the big problems with these kind's of scholarships and affirmative action programs is that they tend to benefit black immigrants from the Caribbean and Africa, rather than ancestors of black slaves. I think there's just something wrong with "black" culture generally that discourages education. You do see black people making high grades in college, but they generally aren't culturally black. The only person in any of my engineering classes who I'd say is culturally black is a woman (women generally have an easier time escaping this sort of thing than men). For a state that's 33% black, to have an entire engineering section of the college that has a handful of black geeks and one black woman is weird.

I am totally against us awarding any international scholarships until we secure and fix any loopholes in our system that would prevent a qualified US candidate from obtaining scholarships.

Blacks and hispanics have a harder time in the education system that is directly linked to geneational poverty-hence my desire to make racial and ethinic schoalrships income based coupled with ability (yes a lower standard of ability would be neccesary) White kids from similar impoverished backgrounds alos lag in SAT scores. Generational poverty creates a total environment for poor learning- From parental ability to help and encourage to the simple reality of just surviving each day-

I meant naturalized people who are or were descendants of Caribbean or African immigrants, rather than descendants of slaves. These aren't international scholarships.

but it is racist to have scholarships (and equivalent organizations) for "whites only"....

As I elaborated in this post, Bravo's typical bigoted statements ignore basic realities...Bravo has NO problem with various scholarships, beauty pageants or clubs/organizations that cater ONLY to caucasian Americans of European descent...but he sure as hell gets bent out of shape if black people do the same thing. People like Bravo just can't deal with the FACT that those who are causing his economic/social problems are NOT the black people, but people who look JUST LIKE BRAVO and his friends and family.
