What is happening in Libya?

No, I mean it. Is it a revolution? A coup? Funny how the words change.
Today the BBC named it an 'uprising'. Some one is getting ready for one helluva spin!

Tomorrows headlines:

Obama speaks to Colonel Ghadafi, American oil safe.

Cameron wishes the Colonel well. Regrets lives lost in rebel uprising.

Merkel says 'I always thought Muammar was a nice guy'.

Sarkozy says 'My friend has agreed to buy as much cheese as we can make!'

Times: Switzerland assures Ghaddafi that funds are secure. Takes biggest order for cuckoo clocks in history.
 
A 'Revolution' is a result of a coup, civil war or uprising. It's called a uprising because its the people rising up against the current goverement and not listening to his laws anymore. Rather then a civil war where there are two opposing sides with two seperate states with leadership in each, which we just don't see in Libya. A coup is when a part of goverement or military rises up against the rest of the goverement and takes control, though much military is going to the rebels side, it is mostly the people who are fighting the goverement, making it not a coup.

And words mean things, it will be interesting to see if accuracy changes the rhetoric.

Good question.

I was reading the demonstrators were using guns. If it's not a peaceful demonstration doesn't the leader have the right to use force, as well?

Well actully the demostrations started very peaceful but then hstarted bombing the protestors and the army opened fired. People in the Libya Air Force actully left to another country because they were ordered to bomb weapon-less civilians protesting.

Uhhh except they only started using guns LONG AFTER their 'leader' decided to start shooting them At which point a large portion of the Libyan military said:

and either joined the rebellion or simply went to lie low. So Qadaffhi (Or however you spell his name, I know it's incorrect) started hiring mercenaries. Mercenaries who were and currently ARE getting beaten by the civilian rebels.

It's an example all under tyranny should take to heart. That THEY CAN WIN.

I am a friend of Damocles and just found out about this forum. I am a expert on war politics and war tactics, 50% self taught and 50% college studies. I have talked to hundreds of people around the world on there politics and living conditions. I have personally shaken the hand of the president of South Africa after having a long conversation about his goverement decisions.

I have spoken to generals of the Air Force, Marines, Navy and Army. I've personally watched navy seals drills and been invited to many political speechs.

Not going against you or anything but who says we have not invaded already. Wouldn't be the first time we heared about marines entering a country and helping out here or there without anybody actully knowing about it until like 10 years later.
