I like Christie's style.

Sigh...yes, SF, this lack of respect (demonstrated on both sides of the political aisle I have to say to be fair) is a lot of what is wrong in this country...and elsewhere.

agreed. Reagan and Tip disagreed on the majority of their political views and goals. But while opponents, they worked together (often butting heads) and yet still treated each other with respect. That has been long lost in our political system.

Now you have situations where people like Bfgrn think its ok for a person to throw a tantrum, do 'jumping jacks' or whatever they want with no respect for the other person. It is truly pathetic.

It most certainly applies to both sides of the aisle as I would imagine we can all find numerous examples of the 'other' side behaving unprofessionally, unethically, discourteously.

In my opinion, while blunt, Christie was not out of line in this case to call her out.

I'm sorry...I forgot you believe government HAS the right to control the people, even scold or threaten to move on to someone else if they don't 'behave'...people must submit to government 'authority' We are merely 'subjects'...got it!

ANYONE has the right to refuse to answer someone else's question if that person is in the process of throwing a fit. To pretend he was 'threatening' her or 'controlling' her is nothing short of absurd. He simply asked for her to show some respect.

Go back and watch the video. She did NOT interrupt him, and she did not throw a fit. She made an animated reaction, but she was silent. He spent a lot of time scolding and belittling her. Christie was grandstanding...appeasing the right wing base that gets off on that 'tough talk'. They LOVE authoritarian leaders...but all authoritarians are conservatives. If Obama or a Democrat did that I would feel the same way. If he wanted to be the bigger person, he should have ignored it, and if she embarrassed herself, so be it.

Yes, of course...your authoritarian figure has the right to dictate people's behavior and how people must act. She didn't SAY A WORD...she didn't interrupt his reply, but your little dictator didn't like her behavior and he jumped on her immediately. If she wants to do jumping jacks while he answers, that is her right.

I have a hard time believing if you were in a conversation like that and someone acted that way towards you that you would just keep on talking like nothing was happening and let the other person make those gestures.

She made A gesture...then the hammer came down. Hey, if she kept it up I could see him stopping and confronting her...this was contrived and grandstanding by the Governor...and the right wing authoritarian followers just LOVE it when THEIR government despots come down hard on the people, especially a union member.

To me it's just a respect thing. You don't do that to someone unless you are trying to show them up.

It also brings me back to my high school days in Oakland where if someone did something like that woman did it was grounds for fighting.

Well, then Christie acted like a high school kid. Christie took it as grounds for a fight. If she is guilty of being immature, so is he.

Please. Christie simply pointed out how she acted like an ass and asked her if she actually wanted an answer. If she was there for dialog he was willing to participate but if she was there for theatrics he was not going to play the part she assigned him.

I don't care who it is people deserve more respect than that woman was giving to Christie, simply pointing out he was unwilling to be a puppet in her play isn't "childish" it was simply the truth. He showed her far more respect than she showed him.

She is a public servant in a position of trust and should be setting an example for children to follow not one that people will use as "what not to do" to teach their kids the least modicum of courtesy expected towards others.

Christie could have handled it differently. He CHOSE confrontation. She did not utter one PEEP, so most people in the room wouldn't have been aware of her ONE SINGLE physical gesture. Man, you right wing conformist must have been raised by nuns with a yardstick...

He "could" have acted just like you supposedly would have, but instead he acted exactly as he would have. He wasn't rude any more than simply telling somebody they are rude is "rude"...

"Conformist" is idiotic name-calling in the hopes that it will scare people away from flat telling you that you are an idiot. Two authority figures and public servants spoke to each other, one tried to grandstand and was caught at it. People don't get a pass from acting like a human should just because they are asking a question of a governor. People should expect a modicum of respect regardless of who they are, and simply asking her to act as he did towards her isn't "authoritarian".

Your posts here show you expect some form of respect, the problem is you don't give the teacher (an authority figure) any responsibility towards others. You pretend the Governor spoke into a vacuum, not in answer to another simply being rude. She made a huge point of her authority, had she spoken anonymously I may have given her more leeway as it was a political function so attempting to make the "opposition" act like you want them to is normal. Instead she presented herself as a public servant who had authority over others.

Conformist fits Damo. Maybe the oversensitive gov needs to send out a pre-meeting dictum...

Maybe if Bfgrn had his ass cracked a time or two by a nun he wouldn't be such a pussy now.

:yurt:

Hey Damo....how was Christie being 'respectful', when the first words out of his mouth was a LIE?

Sad. This is simply an inane attempt to shut down others with name calling. It's like the "racist" rubbish when somebody points out policy that they don't like. It shows that you have run out of any salient argument and no longer even have the ability to even pretend your position is supportable.

You simply give the only responsibility to others to the one who is "opposition" party from you. I understand where it comes from, but it really is just sad. Dude answered all the questions directly and with facts, I like that.

I think he showed amazing restraint after her childish tantrum.

Very well said Damo~ I am still amazed at people who search for boogeymen in order to defend "their guys"!

Also-loved how well Christie nailed his accusers with the facts!
