You're wrong about what I fear. What I am afraid of, is an Islamic Caliphate. You see, I have read the insanity spewed by the radical Islamists, and I believe they are totally serious, and wish to spread Sharia worldwide. Since I believe in Freedom and Liberty, I have to be opposed to Sharia... sorry Muslims. What is at stake here, is Europe. Radical Islam needs only a few more minor dominoes to fall, and Europe is theirs for the taking. Islamic Egypt might not trouble you very much, but what about an Islamic France? Islamic Spain? Islamic UK? When radical Islam controls everything on that side of the pond, are you going to be okay with the consequences? Because, there WILL BE consequences here.
 
1) How do you ascribe this to Obama, do you really belive the USA has control over what everyone else in the world does?

2) Why do you assume that for sure the people cant handle Democracy?

3) If its a huge success and the Middle Eastern version of George Washington is elected president of Egypt, will you give Presidnet Obama credit.

You're being sold a bill of goods here.. this is not about the "will of the Egyptian people" at all. This about radical Islam, creating the condition by which, they can usurp political power and control over Egypt. The plan to use the "legitimacy of democracy" through propaganda, to achieve this objective, and you, being the avid lover of koolaid propaganda that you are, will completely be duped by it all. You already are! You are naively assuming this "pro-democracy" movement is a good thing in Egypt, and whatever the result, will be the legitimate will of the people... BUT...

The people in that region of the world, do not know, understand, or comprehend, how to truly run and have free democratic elections. The very word "election" ...means something completely different in their culture. This is what the liberal left has failed to understand, they did it with Iran, now they are doing it with Egypt. In Iraq, we went in and set up the system... we put the essential pieces in place for them, so they could operate a legitimate and fair democratic representative government, where the true will of the people was realized. Will they keep it intact? That remains to be seen, but they have been given the starter kit. Egypt has no kit... they don't know or comprehend how to establish a functioning and legitimate democracy, just like Lebanon didn't have a kit. Look what happened there? You have to look at this in the perspective of reality, rather than assuming they are just like us.

it sure looked like the will of the egyptian people to me. it was reported that MILLIONS had marched, fairly peacefully btw, in order to remove mubarak. how you can say its not the will of the people is beyond me. mubarak's supporters are tiny compared to his opposition.

why couldn't egypt use iraq's model? or even something like ours? there are plenty of examples for them to use as benchmarks. i agree that most in the ME do not understand democracy because their religion is necesarily a theocracy. but they could try and have both.

1) The US certainly should have some influence through leadership, over what happens in the rest of the world. It's not about control, it's about leadership and principles.

2) I don't assume that. I know for a fact, TRUE democracy and freedom is something every man desires. I think the people in that region do not know how to establish a TRUE democracy. The evidence, is the lack of one.

3) It will not be a huge success for anyone except radical Islam. There is not an equivalent to George Washington in that part of the world, someone like that would be beheaded.
 
Dixie has been listening to too much Glenn Beck, they both belive what happened in Egypt was part of a liberal conspiracy to make us all muslam.

If that is true, how could you support the Bush Doctrine of bringing Democracy to Iraq, would that not be impossable?

No.. I was attacking liberals who claimed Iraqis weren't ready for, and couldn't handle democracy, who are somehow now claiming, Egyptians are. I don't understand it... is there some genetic thing about Egyptians, that they are better suited to establish democracy than Iraqis? How can one group not want democracy and we are forcing it upon them against their will... and just across the Sinai.. same kind of people.. they WANT democracy and fully understand it?

I believe that ANY man wants to be free! ANY people want TRUE democracy! The problem is, the understanding of the principles, and implementing the systems to ensure TRUE representative democracy, and the Middle East's fundamental lack of understanding, regarding these things. They don't ever seem to establish a TRUE representative democracy, all to often, they establish what becomes another dictatorial regime.

You should study some Middle Eastern history. In modern times they have mostly not been given the oppertunity to establish anything, as the West has mostly proped up friendly dictators.

First thing you need to do, is clear your mind of the thought that dixie has said anything at all about people not being able to handle democracy... wasn't said, wasn't implied. Next, you need to read my responses again, and see that I stated it very clearly. I believe ALL men desire and want true representative democracy and freedom. That's not what we had in Iran, that's not what we had in Lebanon, and it's not what we'll see in Egypt. We see it in Iraq, ONLY because the US took a proactive role in establishing the foundations for it, and setting up the system. The actual "planting" process, to be specific.

Hmmmm....I have read through all of Dixie's posts here, as well as Yurt's defense of Dixie, but still don't see what concrete plan ol' Dix would propose on this to prevent the people of Egypt from deciding for themselves....

Yurt did NOT defend Dixie. No thinking person can POSSIBLY defend Dixie. What Dixie just said is that unless, like Iraq, the US comes in and forces OUR brand of democracy on the people of the Middle East they will fuck it all up. Dixie seems to believe that there is little or no chance for Islamists to take control in Iraq but it is the ONLY outcome for Egypt.
