The Rev. Al Sharpton, who has vowed to clean up his fiscal house, has a new tax lien to pay.

Sharpton owes $359,973 to the IRS for 2009 personal income tax, according to documents on file with the city.

Public records show he owes a total of $3.7 million in city, state and federal taxes, including penalties, dating to 2002. But Sharpton's spokeswoman, Rachel Noerdlinger, said that he had paid back "well over seven figures" as part of agreements with the state and IRS and that the liens remained on the books as "a matter of bureaucracy."

Sharpton made $250,000 as head of the nonprofit National Action Network in 2009, a year that ended with the group owing $1.1 million in taxes and having just $36,397 cash on hand.

The organization also pays for first-class or charter travel for Sharpton and other NAN staff, according to its 2009 tax return. Noerdlinger declined to say for whom.

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas failed to report his wife's income from a conservative think tank on financial disclosure forms for at least five years, the watchdog group Common Cause said Friday.

Between 2003 and 2007, Virginia Thomas, a longtime conservative activist, earned $686,589 from the Heritage Foundation, according to a Common Cause review of the foundation's IRS records. Thomas failed to note the income in his Supreme Court financial disclosure forms for those years, instead checking a box labeled "none" where "spousal non-investment income" would be disclosed.

The OP says Sharpton 'had paid back "well over seven figures" as part of agreements with the state and IRS and that the liens remained on the books as "a matter of bureaucracy."'

Clarence Thomas and his wife didn't even REPORT her $686,589 income.

like i said, you support his earlier tax evasion and have to resort to thomas's actions as justification for sharpton....

we get it, pubs = bad, dems = good

and the reporting of income was not related to taxes and its comical you would try to correlate the two, so once again, in order to deflect from dems short comings you look like a hack

HOW is failing to report income NOT related to taxes you moron? If you don't report income, there is NO TAX...that is evading paying taxes you pea brain.

I said Sharpton should pay any taxes he owes. But the magnitude and effect of one preacher owing taxes vs. unethical and deceptive behavior of a Supreme Court justice, a man who sits on the highest court of the land, is called upon daily to understand and interpret the most complicated legal issues of our day and makes decisions that affect millions is not even close.

Thomas failed for 13 years to properly disclose his wife's income on federal financial forms. WHY? Because she is heavily involved in far right wing politics and it creates a conflict of interest.

Thomas and the rest of the far right wing scum that wear robes should be removed and disbarred.

he can't be disbarred for that. there was already a thread on thomas, i said what he did is wrong. so did other conservatives as well. so i fail to see why thomas is relevant in a thread about sharpton cheating on his taxes. but one thing is relevant, liberals of course defend or minimize their fellow libs and try to deflect by bringing a completely unrelated event about a conservative....you're a hack
