Report finds Bush White House violations

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The White House Office of Political Affairs during the George W. Bush administration violated the law by giving briefings to political employees, concludes a government report issued Monday.

The report says the electoral success of the Republican Party and possible strategies for achieving it often were on the agenda at some 75 political briefings at 20 federal agencies from 2001 to 2007. Prohibited political activities were prevalent in the months running up to the 2006 midterm elections, according to the report.

The Office of Special Counsel concluded that such briefings should take place away from the federal workplace during nonbusiness hours and that attendance should be completely optional.

Those who gave the briefings said they were intended to boost morale among political appointees and provide an overview of the "political landscape."

The Office of Special Counsel oversees compliance with the Hatch Act, which prohibits federal employees from engaging in partisan political activity.

Hatch Act penalties call for violators, at most, to be removed from their government positions, so the report would appear to have no impact now that the Bush administration has been out of office for two years.

:palm:

Talk about a totally useless report, let alone a waste of time and effort after two years later.

They do it, too...

this is the intellectual dishonesty you're known for...when Delay got convicted, you downplayed his guilt and proclaimed many others would also be found guilty....but when your political opponents makes the same comment about a different issue.....its now all of a sudden bad to make such a statement

you're are without a doubt the board's biggest whiner

Go get the report that says they all do it.

Why is it every time an R gets caught like this the right claims everyone is guilty.

Pretty ridiculous comparison. Delay is a Republican; Bush is a Republican. My point was that Congress tends to corrupt people after awhile (about a decade, I think I said).

Where as you are, in typical fashion, trying to deflect guilt from a Republican, with your usual "they do it too" argument. And Bush, no less (what a surprise).

LOL

are you seriously claiming no other president has done this...LOL

and obama had the exact same White House Office of Political Affairs until last week

i can't count the number of times a dem is guilty of something and you automatically bring up pubs doing the same or worse...

ah more dishonesty, it was ok because delay is a republican, so that somehow makes it not "they do it too"....odd....given in the last 20 years we had both republican and democratic presidents, so my comment was in fact identical to yours as i was also saying bush I is likely guilty as well....

keep up the lies though onceler, its all you have

Wasn't your first comment on Clarence Thomas a "they do it, too!", as well?

So predictable. Especially with Bush, of course.

I can only imagine what you'd be saying if this was Obama...

so now that you realize you were wrong, as you forgot bush I, you now deflect and attack

you're worse than desh and legion troll in your trolliness, i don't even know why i respond to you, its not debate, its just mindless bickering and tiring responses to your lies...

?

What was I wrong about? The fact that you can be counted on to consistently defend Republicans, and often w/ a variation of "they do it, too!" thrown in?

LOL

I was 100% right on that...

well let me be the first to come out and demand that full action be taken.......I want a resolution passed in Congress that George Bush may never again be elected president.....

No breaking the rules in not ok even if others do it. As a point of reference though it would be good to know have others had similar violations or is this something unique to this administration?

I knew this article would bring out the BDS folks. Any article with Bush in it gets them all excited and makes them want to go dust off their picket signs.
