The real question should be, who USES the rail system? If there is sufficient demand for rail, the market will provide.

In my State, 60% of transportation funding goes to rail and buses, even though only 5% of the population uses it. That is bullshit.

LOL. This would make sense if it was more efficient. However, only government subsidies made it even sort of affordable to use at all, let alone more efficient.

Person you need to lecture about the rail system. I'm probably the strongest believer in it on this board. But the fact of the matter is AMTRAK is a failure in every since way. The rail system needs to be turned back over to the private market in order to become viable again.
