Should women be allowed in combat units?

Call me old school, but I am opposed to women serving in combat. For one thing, it would logically result in women being drafted, if the draft were to ever be reinstated. Secondly, women on the front lines could potentially put the men at risk. As men it is our nature to protect women, which could lead to heroics that would place other soldiers and/or the mission in jeopardy. Thirdly, in a POW situation, females will be treated far worse than males.
I'll argue against the bolded part. You could say the same thing about very close friends. I would do incredibly stupid things to protect the life of my friends, be they male or female.

Such is a possibility. But do you reject that many men would take risks for a female they do NOT know that they would not take for a male unless there were a close relationship involved?

I know I would have that tendency.

ie: ONE person in a platoon takes an undue risk for a team member who is also a close friend (who then gets reamed out for doing so back at base camp - if they live to make it back). Conversely, half the platoon takes undue risk because the team member is female - bad news.

Maybe they need to wait another couple decades, weed out all us old fashioned types, and make sure chivalry is completely and irrevocably dead.

Honestly, I don't see it. If anything when I deployed the women would be the LAST people we did something stupid to save.

Well, if that is true, it's very sad. But I maintain that it is not a good idea to place women on the front lines. It is unnatural for women to kill, and whether you will admit it or not, it will reduce the effectiveness of the male combatants.

I'm just sayin dude, I've served with women in a combat zone, as part of a combat unit (I was deployed with MPs) and there were some fine women who were with me. My squad got stuck with the dumb lazy one though.

Yes They Should!

The Russian's used women in combat roles during WWII!

Half a million women joined the Red Army in the fight against Nazism on the Eastern Front in the Second World War. Women field nurses, partisans, snipers, anti-aircraft gunners and fighter pilots became models of Soviet heroism.

You can, but I maintain with no front lines, woman are more exposed to combat and do better than some men will ever admit.

I believe that if a woman can pass the tests, she should be allowed to serve where she wishes.

I know there are pros and cons and complications, but if a woman is equal to a man in ability, why do we stop them for doing what they wish?

Barring a few chaps out there in internets land who've never actually had much contact with the fairer sex, i think the rest of us would agree that the worst hurt you've ever felt (apart from those gentlemen who have had their testicles compressed in some sort of closing door situation or similar) has been caused by a woman.

They fuck up men better than other men ever could...let them do what they want.

Has the old girl not let up on the pressure yet? :palm:

I agree with the equality issue, in that if a woman can pass the same tests as a man she should be able to serve in the same capacity. But the pregnancy issue is another story. I've known more than a few women that had a deployment cut short (in two cases within under a month) because they got pregnant. It's a bitch (no pun intended).
